That ended at age 11 when he hit a game winner at a tournament in Queens and decided he'd conquered basketball and would focus on rap. In the premier episode of our new series Pick Ups, Fernando Perez heads up to the Bronx to meet Twelvyy on the courts at his native Castle Hill Projects to revisit his glory days and talk about how Lil B blessed the Knicks.

Streetball and hip-hop really do need to get back together. Back in the day it was a lot rappers that brought NBA players to those same type of parks/courts for tournaments and sometimes plain pick up games. Kobe, Lebron, Durant, Iverson, Metta World Peace (Well Artest back then), and so many others were playing ball. Jay Z, Diddy, Fat Joe, Ja Rule, Nas, and other rappers, sometimes even the prominent rap labels of the time, had their own street ball teams and sponsored players. Shit was just a lot more chill and fun back then. They need to bring it back very soon. It was so important and good for the culture.

Castle Hill my old neighborhood. Is highly possible that I'm older than everyone in this video. Castle Hill had some crime but it wasn't like a Robocop movie. It's mainly a working class area my youthful years was the '80s and the 90s. I lived there from 77 to 2020. Lot of good memories there.
