Picking A Japanese Maple And Container Planting It - In this video I pick a Tamukeyama Japanese Maple and plant it into a container. Woody shrubs and trees are best planted in a well drained soil mix.

Hi Jim. It’s hard to believe this is the same tree which you now have permanently planted in your backyard. Just precious. I recently started a small collection of JM in containers. I have two in the ground & six in containers.

Thank you, thank you thank you. I just bought a coral Japanese Maple yesterday at HD and it is going back today. It has about 30 suckers at the base of the trunk. I do not want to fight that problem for years. Good video.

I recently inherited a split leaf Japanese maple from a neighbor's landscape. It was only planted 1 1/2 years ago, zone 5. They dug it up and now I have it in a container. It's a very young tree with mostly dead branches, but there are a few new leaves sprouting out from the main stem. Should I prune it back to the main stem? And what about fertilizer? The top of the root ball still had some of the green pellets from when it was initially planted into the ground.

Your video is exactly what i needed to hear...i have a crimson queen in a pot and a piece of the original graft sprouted. Didnt know i needed to cut it off...now i do...lol. Can that be planted and will it grow?

In 7a in Oklahoma would you bring a potted JM in the garage for the winter or leave it on a patio? Like you mentioned they can be a large investment especially if you have a collection

In 7a it will be fine unless it could stay frozen for 24 hours. So if you have a day that maybe stays below 35 for the high, put it in the garage.

What is the brand of bark fines you are using. I can see some of the purple color and it looks like it might be Yard Care soil Pep from Mountain West. I have been looking for something to use and found the above product in Colorado and am just curious if that is what you are using.

Zone 7, 8, and 9 it can stay out. It needs to go in the ground or be protected in zone 5 and 6

Hi, I just found you on KZfaq and I am watching your videos. I have this Maple I bought and it had these “tan” spots on its leaves. I brought it home and removed all the leaves as it was not doing anything. So I potted it up and cut off all the leaves and it sat for a while. Then all of a sudden I got all this new growth, but the leaves are getting those spots again. What are they and how do I stop it? Thanks for reading and I hope you know what I can do.

I have a Japanese maple in a pot with creeping Jenny planted on top of the soil and it spills over. Is it harmful to the tree when it’s potted with other plants?

It won't hurt it, but fertilizer is probably more important since they are sharing a small space.

Unknown honestly. I get lots of questions from Vegas and Phoenix and unfortunately I don't know a lot of the times. My guess is no, not because of the heat, but the lack of humidity.

Yes, just be careful not to overwater. That happens when we step things up to much.

I can leave out in my area. That video is from last year. It stayed out and looks great. I'm in zone 7. Zone 5 or 6 it would need to be protected in the winter

holidaze he used Plant Tone fertilizer. Garden Centers sell it and you can also get it on Amazon.

I love, and value your explanation of Japanese Maple tree care, but that little puppy is worst shaped maple I have seen from anyone, anytime. Shaping these trees is a partner 'art' to Bonzai, and there is a reason for that. Doing it like that is like taking 6 stars off the US flag and painting the white stripes green.
