You should look in to , you can’t eat the grass. She dry everything. I mean EVERYTHING! And in bouquet everything looks stunning and colourful… a dry zinnia can be a questionable thing 😉 but in arrangement, it’s beautiful… and it’s like that with many flowers and plants. But go watch them 👍🏽😊

I love when you stop and share with us what is happening in the background, especially the alpacas since they seem so curious. I also enjoy seeing your dogs accompanying you. I see many flower farmers asking how do you keep your dogs out of the fields, you seem to embrace that. That’s nice.

You should do a workshop on dried flower arrangements. Popular now in the U.S.A. Is line drawings of women’s head and class members affix dried flowers to the head, very artistic.

Zinnias are lovely as pressed flowers, which can be used in jewelry and other crafts.

The farm looks so lovely! I had no idea dried flower wholesalers were a thing, that's such a brilliant idea. And wow! I would never have thought to dry an artichoke, that looks so cool! I use silica gel sand for drying flowers like zinnias and dahlias - it would take a ton to do the amount of flowers you do, but if you want to have a few for accent pieces it could come in handy. They keep their shape and color much better than they do when hanging, they still darken a bit but not as much. I have also just started experimenting with freeze drying flowers, they look fantastic but I have to figure out a way to seal them properly because they reabsorb moisture really easily.

I use a dehumidifier in my drying area to speed up drying. You could also have one in the shipping container during the fall and winter to keep everything from getting moldy..:)

You can dry the dahlias, zinnias in a stand up manner…use your green sifter to drop the stems into so the disc head is supported and let them dry upright.

I tried drying zinnias out of curiosity throughout this year and each time I am not happy w the result to save for dried flowers. So I'm using them for future seed and for petal ornaments and book markers

My unpopular opinion is dried flowers are awful. I just cant get into them. They remind me of 1978. But hey!!! If I can offload extra stems to a wholesaler that actually likes that stuff, well SWEET!!! Id be into that!!! Your farm is beautiful as always!!! Thanks for all the info you provide!

Really enjoyed this video. Actually I say that about all your videos 😁. I live in New Zealand, so my garden is bare at the moment. Spring almost here. I've had great success drying pompom dahlias. The red and deep purple come up very strong colours. They do shrink, so go for bigger size rather than smaller. I'm still fighting against growing straw flowers as they remind me too much of the 70s, where I hated them in my grandparents house 😄

Must be nice to see videos of flowers during your winter season! I like seeing posts from growers ‘down under’ in winter. I love the helichrysum, especially to use fresh.

Thank you so much for showing us the artichoke. We are now using artichokes in our bouquets and letting people know that the idea comes from you! Could you tell us at what stage you picked your atichoke for it to dry like this? Was it a closed bud that eventually opened or an already opened flower that dried out so beautifully? Thanks for all your great tips and videos!

I believe it was a closed bud that opened. I remember being surprised that it carried on opening and flowering after I picked it and hung it up!

On the Victorian Flower Garden, episode 6, (on KZfaq), shows how the used to drench dry flowers in an alum solution to leave crystals on dry flowers. Not sure what the result looks like, never tried it.

I have pulled the petals off zinnias and just dried them on a flat tray . They keep their colour and look gorgeous. Could be confetti or used in soaps etc ?
