We will be coming for a lifestyle visit in July. I have been playing for several years and have an outside rating (UTPR and WPR) of 4.0. Where could I find information on getting in some play while there for a few days on my lifestyle visit.

We are in the process of moving to the Villages and should be permanent residents within the next few months. We took Pickleball 101 and we were told that we should play at least 10 or so games before coming back for mentored play. Our house is in Santo Domingo,. When looking through the Thursday supplement, where would be the best option and at what Rec center if we are looking North of 466. Do we just look for beginner open play? Both my wife and I love your videos by the way.

I hear you have a lot of Tolls? Do you guys use your GPS to find alternate routes? Can visitors get a pass? Toll roads make me angry and i try to avoid them. Thanks.

Very interesting. A couple questions, ... How many pickleball courts are in the villages, today? How many rec centers have courts, and are they shown on a specific villages web site map? How many games were played last year? How many people attended pickleball 101 or a rating event, last year ? What are the plans for new outdoor courts in the planned villages, south of the turnpike & monarch grove, in the greater Eastport area with 10 or so new villages? Is there a recommended KZfaq video that briefly illustrates the rules, score keeping, etc? And finally, although your guest danced around your question, do 25% of villages play pickleball? Thanks for doing these video.

Hello! I will try and answer all! There are over 440 pickleball courts. As far as I know, every rec center has them. You can go to districtgov.org to find all of them! It is impossible to know how many games were played. Imagine having 40 sets of public courts. Anyone can play at any time. There is no reservation or check in required. (You must have a Villages ID though as they do come out and check to make sure only Villagers are on court). That is also why it is impossible to know the number of Villagers playing. I can tell you, it is A LOT! 😄 I will ask Gordon if he knows the number of attendees for pickle 101. He runs the tournaments, so I am not sure if he has that number or not. TV releases information as they go, so it is impossible to guess their plans. That said, since every rec center so far has courts, it would be reasonable to guess they will continue. We have also read they are building a few indoor pickle courts down in Eastport, but no specifics that we have seen yet. I will also ask Gordon about a video to watch for the basics! I am still very confused about Pickle ball. It sounds to me like a a complete beginner, say you want to go to open play, do you have to already have paired up with people to play or do you show up and someone who is in charge assigns you to play in a group that also shows up? It also sounds like we'd not be able to try it during our lifestyle visit because we'd have to have the time to take the pickleball lessons first, and during lifestyle, we only have a week. Is that correct too?

You could absolutely try with no training. The best idea would be to stop by a court and ask some of the players where the beginner groups are more likely to be. For example, I saw a group at Chula Vista that was for beginners from (I think it was) 8-10 on Thursdays. Then more advanced came later. As far as the pairings go, the first four people go out and play a game and when done, the next four in line come etc. There are usually several courts, so they may or may not be a line. Everyone just waits their turn until a court opens. There are courts at every rec center that I can think of. If you just wanted to try it on your own, just wait until a little later in the day and usually more courts are open. Also, we have “equipment rooms” at each of the rec centers. They usually have printed rules of any of the games available at that center. Most people are pretty kind and if you let them know you are new, they hopefully will help you out!
