In this video a tournament game played at the 3.0 level. You'll see common things 3.0 players do. As the game goes on, the question becomes, is this really 3.0 level play or is it below that?

A lot of tournaments minimum level is 3.0 so maybe they just wantedto play a tournament. but yeah i agree they are not at 3.0 level yet.

I played back one of the serves (black tanktop) at 0.25 speed then stopped the video as the paddle contacted the ball. As long as you don't impart any pre-contact spin on the ball, there are only 3 requirements for a volley serve. All three apply at ball contact. They are upward motion, below your waist (not navel) and no part of paddle face above the bend in your wrist. At normal speed, one might question if any part of the paddle face is above his wrist at the point of ball contact. At one quarter speed I stopped the video at ball contact. His serve looks legal to me.

There is one more requirement that the release of the ball must be visible but that is a replay, never a fault. That wasn't an issue in this case.

I agree that the serve looks legal, I also played it at 0.25 speed and stopped the video as the paddle contacted the ball. Question though, I've seen several videos regarding legal serves and all of them seem to say as long as the ball is hit "below the belly button", the serve is legal. Since everybody's belly button is unpredictably located, servers are usually not called out for violating this rule. So which is it, "waist" or "navel"? To confuse anyone more, some people's "waist" is exactly at their belly button (I've seen many women wear their pants so that it covers up their entire belly button, and a few men also...so would that be considered their "waistline"?)
@CWK090
@CWK090 2 ай бұрын
@@toebeeleeyoung5287 It is definitely "Waist". "Navel" (aka belly button) was removed from the regulations. 4.A.7.c. "Contact with the ball must not be made above the waist." I doubt any referee would call a fault unless it is obvious.

Appreciate your analysis of this game. They are 2.5 level, which is the most frustrating level to be at. It takes lessons, hours of drilling, and studying pros in order to move up to the 3.0 - 3.5 level.

i personally think the most frustrating is 3.5 trying to get to 4.0… it takes more drilling and less rec play to make that jump… though i might be biased because that’s where i currently am between 3.5-4.0 . i feel it’s taking a good amount of effort and time for me to make that jump. (i have no tennis background)
@okayest_amateur
@okayest_amateur 3 ай бұрын
@@imsap2323 3.5 to 4.0 you need to actually drill and practice shots. Work on proper technique. A lot of people can get to 3.5 without even trying just playing. After that you need to put in the work to advance. Strategy also starts to matter, you can have all the right shots but use them at the wrong time. Many people are not willing to put the time into developing the correct technique to advance and therefore get stuck at 3.5. So you are not wrong. 3.5 to 4.0 takes hard work. You can do it! Be willing to work hard, treat pickleball as a sport and not just as a rec/social game, and practice.

2.5 in our Town. Both Green Hat and Woman in Black are hitting a lot of balls with the Paddle Face pointing down (ball can only go up). In order for them to progress they need to refine their forehand strokes.

I have never seen anything like what that lady was doing but it does have a purpose for me. Like golf, you can't spin the paddle or club if you are holding it too tightly so for me it is both a check and a fix for my grip to spin them a couple times every once in a while. I can't drive as hard or dink as well if I am gripping the paddle too hard. Of course I do it once or twice every other game or so. Doesn't number in the hundreds like this one.

I honestly don't understand how breaking down a game of sub 3.0 players is helping anybody learn how to play better. It's just demeaning and doesn't really serve a purpose imo
@929mmr
@929mmr 3 ай бұрын
I disagree. Any of those players or any at that level can benefit by the breakdown. Most of us started playing the game by just hitting the ball over and thinking the only real strategy was hitting it hard or trying to hit it where they weren't so this will let beginners know there is more to the game. Some videos, like this one, I only watch to get an idea of what many think of the ratings. I watch 3.5's for the same reasons and 4.0+ to give me ideas to improve.

Maybe a little harsh. Guy in green is 2.5. The others are maybe somewhere near 3.0. The team in black will easily beat 2.5s but probably struggle against solid 3.0s. Score and the play reflects that they are not all at the same level so basically all of them are somewhere between 2.5 and 3.0.

I didn't hear anything harsh. They are 2.5 level. I played at that level for about one year. I only improved through lessons and drills. There is no shame at the 2.5 level. It's more like frustration.

@@AnnMittIt wasn't the commentary that I called harsh but rather the rating. Kind of the opposite because I thought 2.5 rating was fair for one of the players but that the other 3 were maybe a bit better than that.
