Rory, thanx for posting. The lady in white was by far the best player on the court. From all of your beginner videos this was the best played by far. They may not have all the shots consistently but they understood the game and executed to the 3.0 level. The lady in white was IMHO a 3.5 but is not the most athletic.

Nice analysis. I agreed with pretty much everything. Woman in white did have nice touch and nice shots but her court positioning might have been the worst of the 4. I know you hate the lob but there was a really good one from the near side and they lost the point because they actually moved back to defend the return rather than getting to the net. I am sometimes guilty of admiring my lobs and not moving to the net and it often costs me. I am not a fan of stacking. I thought they were all pretty solid 3.0s and it wouldn't take a whole lot of coaching to get them to 3.25.

Good points. I admire my lobs as well. That causes me to sometimes not move forward as I watch them falling from the sky.

Hi, Rory. Tired of me yet? 😅 You make a lot of good points about court positioning, ball height, etc. Definitely does look like 3.0 play as I know it. Two more points. (1) AFAIK the third-shot drop is really a 3.5+ thing. A bit surprised to see anyone on that court even attempting one.. Overall I'd say the woman in white - the only one really trying them - is getting close to a 3.5 except some positioning/consistency issues. The others ... well, not so much. (2) I disagree with you a bit on lobs. I find them *extremely* effective at the 3.0 level, and still quite a useful alternative to the third-shot drop even at 3.5 - especially on third shot, depending on what the return looks like and whether they're moving up or not. I also find them easier to execute than a third-shot drop, which new 3.5 players will often put a bit too high for an almost-free point to their opponents. Like me. 😂 Lastly, even if it doesn't quite get past them but just gets high enough to force them to hit from the backcourt, I find that a lot of 3.5 opponents either screw up the return completely or only return quite weakly. I'd love it if you could address lobs more in some future video, because (obviously) I think there are a lot of misunderstandings about when they work and why. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for taking the time to write the lengthy reply. I usually play outdoors and wind is almost always a factor. It's difficult to judge how much the wind is going to affect a lob. Most of the players I play against, outdoors, either hit it out of the court, or do not hit it deep enough and it's smashed back ending the point or getting the opponent to pop it up for a put away.

When returning server, even pros have trouble stacking and getting to the other side of the court. The guy in white has no chance to get from the back left to the kitchen on the right, so the white team should not stack in that configuration. Stacking when serving has no issues moving to the right spot, so anyone can do that. But unless you are in a 3.0 tournament, stacking does not help you get better.

I notice that the lady in pink as an awkward forehand, she seems to hit with from her elbow instead of her shoulder. I think that this could cause a lot of errors. But maybe she has a shoulder injury.

I am not convinced itnis a shoulder issue, but more of her grip. It is quite odd and it forces her to flip at the ball using her elbow. Very strange.
