Glad to see 4.5 level play that actually looked like play at that level! Third shot drop, a lot of dinking, then firefight, then reset, then dinking again, etc., all in the same rally is something you see at professional matches. That is real pickleball. Well done! One big mistake the young players make, that the older players took advantage of, is both young guys run for every lob. The young guys put themselves in a terrible defensive position with both of them back and the older players at the NVZ with a ton of angles available for their returns.

Rory, I absolutely love your channel! The commentary is helping one of my students learn the game better/faster. She is learning just how important getting to the kitchen is….and….why developing her dinking game is critical to advancement. BTW, I’ll be building an indoor facility within the next 6 months and appreciated you mentioning the surface of this new facility. I may reach out to you for other building recommendations. Thanks again for your teaching videos, Rory.

Check out the playing surface at Pickle Haus in Algonquin, IL They have 12 permanent hard courts, meaning you play indoors with outdoor balls. Most indoor courts are basketball courts with lines for multiple games. On that surface you use indoor balls.

Good observation. The lob definitely has its place. And if it works, keep using it. The older guys turned this match completely around using the lob. It upset the younger guys entire game. Rory the anti-lobber gave it its due.
@CWK090
@CWK090 Ай бұрын
@@douglasmurdoch7247 I agree. A lob outdoors, against a headwind, is even easier than an indoor lob. My objective is to move one and hopefully both players back, forcing them to run for the ball and return when off-balance (Not set in the ready position). This scenario (their tailwind) also increases the chances their off-balance return will go long. I seldom lob outdoors if the wind is at my back. It's too easy for my lob to go out and if it lands in, the headwind in their off-balance return helps keep their ball in.

Great control by all. The change up made to flip the momentum in the games is just another visible way to tell they are higher level players. One thing I really like about pickleball is that normally the "ratings" work themselves out and in general it is a mix of overall play skill, age and sex to allow for great games based on close ratings. Thanks for posting this as it was a great watch.

So I will say what helped us win the second and third game was to control what we could control. That was my emotions. If I would have been too emotional from the first games loss I wouldn't have thought about crucial lobbing and other actions needed to get the win. My partner and I have both played enough pickleball to know that if you weather the storm you can go on streaks as well. Emotional composure won us the gold level match

We see so many power hit games because lower level players just don’t take the time to truly learn the game pickleball they just want to hit the ball over the net as hard they can to win the point. I hope in the future as the sports becomes more popular people will become aware how the game be much more fun playing the soft game.

After just four minutes into your video, I can see that you are not good. You say you don't know why the guy in red is not moving up to the kitchen, say he is making a mistake by staying back. No! He is not making a mistake. He is split-stepping and moving up after he makes a great reset. Your commentary is wrong. Down thumb.

That's ok if you disagree. I asked him about not moving forward after the match. He said he usually does, especially with such a good reset, but, never having played against his opponents, and, being early in the game, he didn't know if his opponents were going to dink it or jam him. If you'll notice, during the rest of the match, he did move forward.
