Altyagac National Park was established on the territory of 11,035 hectares on the basis of the Altyagac State Nature Reserve and the bordering state forest fund lands. Broad-leaved forests make up 90.5% of its territory.
The main purpose of the creation of the National Park is to preserve the natural landscapes of the southeastern slopes of the Greater Caucasus, to restore flora and fauna, to strengthen the protection of natural complexes, to implement environmental monitoring, as well as to create conditions for tourism and rest (recreation), and to provide ecological education to the population. is to do.
In the territory of the National Park there are brown mountain-forests, rotten-carbonate mountain-forests, brown mountain-forests, grassy mountain-meadows, etc. soil types are common. The region is dominated by mild-hot climates with dry winters and mild-hot summers.
