Ruta del Cares is the most spectacular hiking trail in the Picos de Europa National Park. It was not created as a mountain route for hikers but was really a shepherd's path that linked 2 small villages Caín and Poncebos. In the 1940s, for the hydroelectric use of the Cares River, the route was developed as we can see now.
The trail is known for its views and narrow roads, which is impressive. Rocks on one side and cliffs on the other, with a width of 1 to 3 meters. One way length is 12kms, takes about 3-4 hours. If you want to complete the round trip in one day, you need to prepare yourself well with enough food and water.
