My Granfater was the son of a Dutch tugboat captain who was kiled while leading an ocean liner out of New York harbor. He was orphaned as his mother died earliar. He was adopted by the family who owned Pierce Arrow and worked for the company for many years and went on to enter politics and live in Newport RI,

It is interesting as to how many automakers had their start in other industries: Studabaker was a builder of carriages and farm wagons, White I think did sewing machines before its spinoff of automobile and truck manufacturing, and many others were making bicycles like Pierce Arrow. Sounds like Pierce Arrow was an early manufacturer that that was adapting to a changing market-- cycling was a craze where people were discovering mobility for the first time, apart from walking, taking a horse drawn trolly, or a commuter train.

Great information thank you so much for sharing. All of that. It would be cool to go down the paths of those other car companies as well, perhaps one day

FN stands for "Fabrique National", an old Belgian firm who made many things including cars, and is still in business but is probably best known for their firearms.

You hit a home run with me 👍 1st- I don't think I've heard of Pierce motorcycles and my knowledge of old motorcycles is (or was once) very good. 2nd- I didn't know FN was predated with a 4 cylnder. 3rd- I didn't know there was a bike other than late classic Triumphs which carried their oil supply in the frame. And home base is that that oil-in-frame was an American, not an English, invention. Very well played Jay 😎 And good to hear your normal voice returning! My motorcycling library is sadly in storage and has been unread for well over a decade; maybe it's time to fix that. If you're interested I could loan some to you for researching your motorcycle series, just let me know. I'll be digging through there in a few days or sooner and I'll refresh my memory on what I've got. WYR Henderson; well regarded in it's time though FN was more popular in Europe WYR2 I'll take the Indian though the Excelsior was a better machine.

Thank you so much I’m so happy that you got a lot out of this episode that’s the goal of the channel is to keep automotive history, alive, as well as motorcycles, and just history and general.. My voice is returning thank God, but I have no idea what that was. I was sick for a week and a half. I lost my voice for four days. Generally when I lose my voice, I only lose it for a day maybe two days but that was insane. .. I guess the pollen here is really really bad or where we went was really bad. I still have a little bit of it lingering I’m hoping tomorrow it will be completely gone. I’m going to Classic auto Mall, to do some more cars they got a car that I really really want to do. I’ve been waiting a long time to do. I’ll let you in 1957 Studebaker Goldenhawk one of my favorite cars of all time I wish I could drive it but they kind of won a lot of money for it and it’s not about driving the cars for me because what I found is you could have two cars are identical and every single way, but they won’t drive the same because everything wears out different but I will do everything in my power to see if we could start it at least.. truth be told I really want that car one day Great choices =)

I'm not a motorcycle guy, but this was a very interesting video. I certainly never knew that Pierce made motorcycles. Glad your voice is better, but I could hear it fading toward the end. It's funny that T-head engines were so prevalent in the past, having a separate cam for intake and exhaust valves. We have the same thing today, except the cams are overhead, and the valves are more in a hemi style. WYR= none of them, well, ok I'd take any of them if given to me. NTT= no idea at all!

I've been there and I've seen it. I was drooling figuratively of course when I saw it and honestly, I had no idea that Pierce made motorcycles when I walked into that building. I absolutely love it up there. It's a totally different world. Are you going to the Greenfield Village old festival? If you've never been, you should go. It's a bucket list thing if you're into cars.
