Carlos is so engaging and the crowd loves him. He needs a lot of positioning and net work, but his mind is completely present. What a joy!
@paulhussey8981
@paulhussey8981 2 жыл бұрын
While I agree with most of what you wrote, you are wrong about his positioning. His net play does need work but then most of the young players have this same issue. His positioning is one of his strengths. He has great anticipation , so is able to get into position to play either defensive or offensive shots. Look at the rally at the net where Hebert hit that wide volley and Alcaraz was able to track it and bunt a winner down the line.
@pawshands9706
@pawshands9706 2 жыл бұрын
@@paulhussey8981 allow me to clarify if I may. His positioning during more neutral exchanges, which he (Carlos) should do much more with. His reactions are very impressive, but if he maintains a level of better positioning during less vigorous exchanges, I feel he will become an all around threat.
@paulhussey8981
@paulhussey8981 2 жыл бұрын
@@pawshands9706 I don't really understand what you're trying to say here. You are giving two (supposedly) different scenarios( I think!) one being 'neutral' exchanges and then comparing it to a second; which would be 'less vigorous' exchanges.To me those two sound very similar not opposite. Isn't neutral pretty much the same as less vigorous?
@pawshands9706

@@paulhussey8981 i'm sure (semantics aside) that some will make sense. Carlos is still a developing player and he obviously needs to fine tune various technical aspects of his game. Which i find very explosive and with limitless potential.

Its funny cause the other player that comes to mind is his compatriot Gaston. Best hands was ever McEnroe until new technology, strings and was dismantled by Agassi. That was virtually signaled the end of winning via coming into the net. I know Federer did it once to win a tourney in the US I believe, was amazing. But the only modern day player to prove you can win at the net was Rafter. When he won his first US open Agassi called it a fluke. So he repeated it one year later to everyone's astonishment. Pat Rafter wont be forgotten for his handling of killer passing shots at the net. I also believe he left the game prematurely because he couldn't evolve as a good all rounder but where his baseline game lacked certainly made up for it at the net. The problem was you were a sitting duck at the net. and seldom could you win matches consistently. It is frustrating but a better way still to earn a quid than to labor on a building site any time of the day.

@@luigimanzelli3786 I read what you said and you're wrong. In 2021 Alcaraz failed Marbella, Barcellona, Estoril, Miami, Acapulco, Granada, Kitzbuel, and Cincinnati. Of course, he's only 18. But I'm just commenting what u wrote and there are several others (U25) who have been more consistent this year overall. Then if we talk about potential is another thing.

@@luigimanzelli3786 You clearly don't like Sinner and Ruud, and it's ok, but together they won 9 ATP titles in 11 months this year. They have been extremely consistent.

@@effeelle91 i don't like them cause their tennis is flat and boring, but putting that aside winning ATP 250 and winning nothing makes no difference in my mind if we're talking about becoming a top player, honestly you should not even be playing 250, but we'll see what they can do.

@@imadariusmain7311 I just don't think so. He's top ten on hard when he's in the zone. But clay, while he's amazing, he hasnt reached that exponential level some of the great clay players are at I think him and sinner will get there. But it's a couple years off imo. I hope he wins a master's 1000 clay though

Ugly matches for Alcaraz game perspective also helps to gain experience, these kind of matchups are always rough and ugly and you have to learn to be patience and Alcaraz did it even after being 2-4* in the first and 3rd set, so props to him for staying in the match and Herbert too for playing really well, a pity his last 2 points.

We have many skilled and talent young players in the world of tennis. More than ever at the same time. I can tell it will much harder for any player to win a tournament especially a GS. Djokovic and nadal are no longer dominant in 2022.
