Not to mention, Alex Jones was not found guilty by a jury. It was a summary judgment in which the defense was not even permitted to speak. No evidence or testimony by the defense was ever presented. It will in all likelihood be overturned on appeal. It’s clear that Piers is so heavily biased against Alex Jones that he’s unwilling to accept any new information with regard to him, and obviously hasn’t done his homework.

Well he is from the UK where there isn’t any difference between the two. They found a guy guilty of a hate crime for having his girlfriend’s dog do a Nazi salute for f*ck sake. In the UK they’ve fined people for standing on the other side of the road from abortion clinics and silently praying in their head. There are no other countries that totally grasp the idea of free speech because they’ve never had it before and still wouldn’t to this day if not for the US putting it in our constitution. To this day there are still no other countries on this planet besides the US that do guarantee free speech.

Completely ridiculous that so much time and effort went after Alex Jones having a mind of his own instead of whatever failures of society that let the shooting in the first place. After Uvalde police stood down outside of the last school shooting when they could have saved lives, there is something seriously wrong that should already had been addressed. Instead resources were spent going after Alex questioning how these events get to go on.

Alex was not found "guilty". This was a civil lawsuit. Guilty and not guilty verdicts are only determined in a criminal trial. A civil trial only determines culpability based on preponderance of the evidence. Criminal trials must determine guilt beyond the shadow of a doubt. Piers should know that before declaring someone "guilty".

Yeah, I was thinking something similar: courts finding the person guilty doesn't mean all is true. Courts can be wrong and have been many times due to a wide variety of factors. So Piers' premise is flawed.

@@Oregon727 what I mean is Piers saying Alex is guilty which is fine. But Piers categorically refutes he knew anything about phone hacking whilst he was in charge of a newspaper. That included many celebrities, royal family members and a dead girls phone. So he can say Alex is guilty all he likes- as long as he acknowledges his ‘guilt’ when it comes to phone hacking and doesn’t refute it anymore.

I wasn’t expecting such a constructive conversation. I wouldn’t even really call it a debate at parts. It felt more like an incredible exchange of points and perspectives and it overall made me incredibly happy that they both found a lot of common ground! This is what the news should do, exchange ideas and perspectives, challenge their stance, don’t embarrass or shame the person. The news understands that the GOTCHA moments bring in the viewers, but an incredible conversation like this here is just as good, if not better at bringing in listeners.

@TheKennyboy92 but that's the point. Unless he knowingly lied Jones cannot be found guilty of defamation in the US because of the first amendment. The court found Jones guilty by default. This means the plaintiffs never had to prove his guilt to a jury. It also meant that in the proceedings to find damages that were held in front of a jury Jones was not allowed to raise any defence or mitigating circumstances, because the court had already found him guilty. So a jury never heard his side of the story or arguments that support his innocence. What he said was disgusting and in my opinion wrong but not illegal, and the court's rulings in the defamation suit against him were also disgusting and wrong, and should be overturned. Just look at the unprecedented damages awarded, they are designed to destroy Jones not to make amends. It was a political circus.

It was a BS subpoena made openly vague as to make it impossible to deliver. That still in other like cases doesn't give the court to default on him as there been most cases similar were such issue arised that the court didn't then immediately default as "guilty." That is why many who watched it called it a Kangaroo Court.

The key point I found was when Crowder pointed out that other people have claimed Piers to be responsible for violence. Piers is sitting exactly in the same position Jones was except Jones has a larger target on his head and had the apparatus leveraged against him. Piers is sitting atop survivorship bias claiming those that didn't survive were for some arbitrary reason that are incongruent with the laws of the nation.

It took a long time to hash out that Piers was talking about civil liability while Steven was mostly talking about criminal liability. It’s also very difficult to prove that someone “knowingly” lied about something/someone, and it’s not necessary to prove “knowingly” to prove civil defamation. I don’t know what the civil court found in the Alex Jones case because I haven’t cared enough to read those details.

It is impossible to know if AJ intentionally lied because that information only exists in AJ's head, and we do not have access to it. It is also possible that AJ was convinced this was the truth and that's why he said what he said. He has never admitted he lied on purpose, he has always maintained that he believed it was real, and later admitted he was wrong. I think AJ is a clown, but to believe he lied on purpose is to be intellectually dishonest.

@devilmansanchez whether Jones lied is fundamental when discussing his defamation suit. The court found him guilty by default so the plaintiffs never had to prove his guilt to a jury. Some might say the default judgment was sought by the court on purpose because they knew proving Jones knowingly lied would be near impossible, and therefore an impartial jury would not find Jones guilty. The unprecedented damages awarded - designed in my opinion to destroy Jones rather than to make amends to the plaintiffs - point toward a biased court. In my opinion what Jones said was awful, however that doesn't make it illegal. I also believe how the court behaved was an affront to justice.

AJ intentionally did lie in his defense About the crisis actors he was telling partial truths but let insanity take over. One magazine (which I think was the INquirer, but I can't remember) actually did hire crisis actors to pretend to be parents for an interview and they were caught and AJ used that to claim the whole thing was a hoax.

Piers was wrong about Jones being found guilty by a jury. AJ was actually defaulted by the judges so that a jury could never rule on the exculpatory evidence.

The thing is, it was already ruled in a court of law that he was knowingly lying, so it's not on Piers to prove that he was. At this point, anyone can say that Alex Jones was knowingly defaming those people and be inherently factually correct. If you disagree with that, that's fine, but the burden of proof would only be on the person contesting the case ruling. Not the other way around.

I think Piers has actually come a long way. He is much more likable now. The main point where he came to my attention was his "long lens" comment to Ian Hislop on HIGNFY. I am pretty certain that was a bad move/ statement, even though it was kind of funny (in an obviously threatening "I am a evil journalist" kind of way). It was actually really funny, but it really does not make journalists look good at all.

As an attorney I love reading dumb post like this from someone who doesn’t know the law. It was a default judgment because of Jones repeatedly violating the courts rules of discovery. Jones was proven 100% liable for defamation because there was overwhelming evidence that he did it. Most of it from the contents of his cell phone that his attorney sent to the other side.

I generally like watching Crowder debates but all I seen was him back tracking on things he said and kept placating to Piers. Why did he get do offended when asked about David Duke ? Was he somehow implying that Piers though Steven would defend him ? I thought it was a valid question. I think even blatant admitted with his comment about free speech with exception of criminal stuff was going against his main argument of free speech being simple. It's really not. "Open" discussion? Really...? While more open than the usual drivel that's disguised as news, Piers still doesn't actually engage in this discussion. He never once even attempts to understand the words Steven are saying. He's talking at Steven with pre thought of ideas, but not talking *with* Steven.

The whole court proceedings against Alex was a shame. His guilt was decided long before he went to court. It all has to be overturn.

Alex was not found guilty. He was pronounced guilty without considerations of the facts in the case, because the judge claimed that Alex did not deliver all requested documents. The clip that Piers played, did not say anything disparaging about the parents or that the children did not die. It just said that it was an inside job with actors. Maybe there are better clips where Alex did say something inappropriate, but that clip was not it.
