Piers Morgan Uncensored is joined by animal rights activist and vegan Joey Carbstrong and celebrity chef John Mountain who decided to 'ban all vegans' from his restaurant to discuss John's decision and whether there is some legitimacy to Joey and others' claims that we should eat less meat for the planet and to help in the fight against animal cruelty.
John explains that after one vegan customer was rightfully upset with their service, he was bombarded by multiple one-star reviews from vegans due to some of the lack of non-meat options at his restaurant. Joey says that John should 'stop crying' over one review and instead focus on millions of animals that suffer cruelty.
Piers and Joey then descend into a heated debate over the treatment of animals and eating meat. Piers suggests that Joey doesn't care about millions of bees dying every year during the growth of almonds (a common substitute in vegan products such as milk) - but Joey believes that they are dying for other reasons so there is no need to focus on them.

I'm not a vegan, and I agree with Piers on quite a few things. That being said, this was very poor debating with his only ammunition being one article from the guardian about bees. The chef accepted her booking then did not provide her with food - she was not some irate woman who turned up to a meat restaurant demanding to be fed. I would be pissed off too if I were her - she is not nuts for being irritated or leaving a bad review and frankly Joey has a point about killing animals in cruel ways where they suffer, and I do find posing with a dead piglet as a joke pretty distasteful. In many ancient cultures even when you killed an animal you respected it and tried to ensure as little pain as possible.

Because the claim that bee harm proves veganism is not valid is a logical fallacy -- the nirvana fallacy. You can also make a case that it's a strawman argument too, because the bee harm to which he's referring would not occur in a vegan world as bees would never be employed and exploited as laborers -- let alone killed. However, this whole thing is rather silly since, other than citing a vague article, Piers does not offer empirical evidence for this claim. Furthermore, if it were that case that bees were intentionally and avoidably harmed and exploited in the process of farming avocados and almonds there isn't a vegan alive who wouldn't be concerned. Finally, the example was given in bad faith since it's pretty obvious Piers doesn't give an actual fig. @@dontknowwhattocallmyself.5144

As someone who worked as a beekeeper I can say that the impact of pollination on varroa levels was never noticeable. The fact of the matter is varroa gets out of hand when hives are not being checked on frequently, and during pollination we are constantly interacting with those hives and checking them.

I'm not a vegan, and I like Piers. But I feel like this "debate" was pretty one-sided. Joey tried to discuss an official U.S. statistical report and he was dismissed off-hand. Joey kept getting cut-off and his points weren't even discussed, they were just dismissed. This wasn't much of a debate.

I’m a meat eater and have sausages couple of times a week. Im not naive to what animals go through, but choose not to think about it. However when this vegan mentioned the pigs I actually looked up one of the many videos! The pigs are led on a conveyor belt and many already sense the danger of the gas chamber that takes in 2-3 pigs at a time. As they try to manoeuvre away from it..they are prodded in the ass with an cattle prod to force them inside. There was a camera inside the chamber too..and the screams are horrific..it’s not a quick death! All pork products are now off my menu! But it’s also made me think more about other meats too. Im just so used to eating meat I don’t know how I would make a transition to a purely vegetarian diet. But animals are used to make all sorts of products not just food. It’s made me think at least!

And in nature when lions or tigers eat little deers or zebras or monkeys or whatever, do you think they sing them a lullaby or something so they don't scream or don't get stressed when they are slowly eaten and torn apart. Or when snakes eat little rabbits. Or when a shark or a crocodile tears apart and drowns their prey? What do you call that, a nice party? Do you want to put headphones to the pigs with nice music so they don't hear the other pigs being slaughtered... would it be ok to you then? Or should we teach the pigs to scream in a less horrific way so you don't get so offended? And I'm going to tell you a little secret and I hope you don't kill yourself after learning this terrible fact: Humans even kill other Humans!!!!!! and not just for eating purposes, sometimes just for territorial dominance, for vengeance, for pleasure, for money... That's ace you've seen the footage and taken steps to avoid the products you mention. Hats off to you mate 👌 I did the same thing around 4 years ago having watched land of hope and glory (available on KZfaq) and went vegan straight off the bat. I would say take it slow and just change out meals a few times a week rather than going full vegan / vegetarian as you'll be so used to eating a certain way. Following pages like the save movement or activists like Earthling Ed as well as Joey Carbstrong will make the dietary decisions you make easier too. Hang in there and just try to be mindful of what goes into the production of the products you consume when next in the supermarket 👌

I think the point was (from what I heard) that the woman contacted the chef in advance, twice, and while he said he would cater for her he ultimately overcharged her (30+$?) for a non substantial plate of some veggies. Isn't that underdelivering or even a broken promise? And then the deserved criticism she left lead to the ban of all Vegans. Yet, as Joey said, he didn't ban all fishers for his other bad review a fisher man left..

Scientific data would generally take precedence over a newspaper article posted by a journalist in any other facet of life, so why would we take a newspaper article more seriously than a scientific published paper in this case? On the topic of bees, the vegan was actually correct, you can find the data yourself. And those bees come from the very industry in which vegans don’t support, the honey industry, which Piers does support. I’d be embarrassed if I was Piers on this one.

Nobody won this debate, they all behaved like twats. The vegan didn't win, he wasn't even doing particularly well here. He lost it immediately, very agitated, very hotheaded, which completely invalidated anything he had to say. Not that anyone would get a chance to hear what exactly he had to say, as Piers is doing his usual "I'm going to talk over everyone and not let them finish" shtick that demonstrates what his show is really all about: manufacturing drama so more viewers tune in. And the restaurant owner came across as a bit oversensitive and petty. Although, if what he says is true, that he got review bombed over this one negative experience, I kinda understand where he's coming from. But he did behave kind of immature during this interview. Also, you mention Piers' fake laughter. Which I hadn't even noticed, but perhaps that's because I've been desensitised to it on account of this being the third time I see this guy "debate". But Joey was doing the same, so yeah...

One study of the overall cause of death of bees does not dismiss *THE FACT* of the number of bees killed to pollinate almonds [don't know about avocados]. This point trying to be made was: If you do not eat pigs because they are killed, why do you eat almonds because bees are killed to grow them.

Also, the publication was not "from the opponent", so the merit you're talking about is non existent. So, you are conceding that killing animals for food is OK. It was not debunked, it was ignored. The fact is that the killing of the bees are *known and planned* collateral damage in the commercial farming of the almonds. Besides there is no authoritative source in which the vegan movement base its views on. It is not a religion. What matters here is the science and scientific publications, which clearly sides with vegans on a whole host of issues. Secondly pointing out that animal agriculture as we practice intrinsically requires the death and slaughtering of billions of sentient beings doesn't in any way go against my vegan philosphy. I'm just stating the nature of farming animals. And to answer your question. There is no moral obligation/imperative to create life, but there is moral obligation not to treat sentient beings inhumanely. Creating life in of itself has no value on its own, and creating life only to be subjected to cruel and inhumane treatment is anything but an "opportunity"

For several years now I have been following the science around bees and what we can do to help. Like planting Sun Flowers and other flowers / weeds in our garden etc. Anyway ... I saw a documentary about bees and almonds in California. You're 100% right about the bees. Humans don't need to eat almonds and I certainly don't eat them as part of my Keto lifestyle. After the Almonds and Avocados you speak of what about the amount of tinned produce that vegans eat... no pollution making tinned products eh.

Being a vegan is one of the kindest things a person can do.. for the animals, the planet, and the body. I became a vegan because I was against animal cruelty and the needless violence we inflict upon animals for completely unnecessary reasons such as taste pleasure. I couldn't justify it. You are able to recognise Pires's completely disingenuous behaviour and bullying , and that he can't defend eating meat other than stating that he 'loves meat', whilst watching a clip of pigs being gas chambered for his bacon. There are no logical arguments against veganism. You seem like a reasonable person, I would urge anyone to consider going vegan, not for people, nor for me, but for the animals.

Having dogs in apartments, closed 23.8/7 and only give them a 10 minute walk (or even less) once a day, just so they could pee and poop outside. And the thousands of animals and insects that are killed with farm equipment every harvest season due to crop deaths.

Being vegan greatly reduces crop deaths because it reduced the amount of crops needed. Or to put it simply - Vegans may eat more plants directly, but more plants are used in any non-vegan diet.

What i really think about animal rights activist and vegan activist is that its fine i mean the activists are tryin to decrease the amount of animal killed for food, i like people trying their best to help animals but what i mostly ahte about this activist is probably how they promote it. Like this one where they a group of vegan decides to throw a tomato soup at one of van gogh's painting and another one is this in which nearly got his restaurant gone bankrupt just because he mistakely didnt give a vegan food in which she has the right to file a complaint and get upset however tho, to the point of that she decides make his restaurants rating from 4.2 to 2.8? I think is that a little too much? What i really think this vegan activist and animal rights activist should do is at least support an organization that are inventing an alternate ways to get meats without even killing the animals (i remmember watching one of nas daily that they can create meats just by takin one of the animal's cell) or share some benefits of becoming vegan or if possible, support organization that tries to save marine life by cleaning the oceans. I think if these activists really wanted to prevent many animal deaths, they should at least promote it that doesnt harm people's experience or even their life.

Depends on the race of the slave, certain races belong as slaves and cannot actually be trusted with freedom. Same with animals, some animals are meant to be food for other animals, that's just the nature of things. I feel absolutely no guilt over slavery and I fully believe certain races should be forced to work, should they be treated poorly? Absolutely not! But forced to work? Absolutely yes.

For your education: Commercial almond growers contract bee keepers to pollinate the almond trees. Once the pollination is determined to be completed, they spray insecticide to kill insects that are harmful to the trees BEFORE all the bees are gone. So, the bees are known collateral dead only for the farming of almonds. If to be vegan is against the killing of animals then why do vegans eat almonds or any agriculture that may use insecticide to kill animal life? *THAT* is the argument that none of you can comprehend.

I love almonds and on the surface they seem like an eco friendly alternative to some animal based products. The sad truth is they come at a huge cost to the environment from the excess groundwater usage and pesticides needed to grow them. Whole ecosystems are being destroyed. A single almond needs approximately 12 litres of water to grow. We all love cotton as well, but it's another crop that's water hungry and needs vast amounts of pesticides to remain viable.

You are right almonds do take a lot of water,however all plant milks are more environmentally friendly than cows milk,including almond milk. The website "Our world in data" is used as a teaching resource at Harvard, Oxford, MIT etc and has a huge amount of info on the impacts of food choices on the planet. Pertinent to the above comment is the page titled "Dairy vs. plant-based milk: what are the environmental impacts" which has a breakdown of the effects of a range of milks on climate change across Land use,Greenhouse gas emissions, Freshwater use and Eutrophication. All the research shows that dairy overwhelmingly exceeds the others, including soy and almond. Also a plant based diet in no way requires almonds in any form. And,most importantly plant milks do not involve the hideous rights violations and cruelty that all animal products require. Have a look at Dominion,a documentary that came out in 2018,or even just the trailer Dominion we will rise, it's under 5 minutes. They will give you a good idea of what you are responsible for if you buy any products that are animal based, who pays the true price and how.

Could correlate a lot of the wildfires there cause massive amount of animal deaths years with how the industry has preferential treatment. The study he quoted mentioned that only 6% of bees die from pesticides yearly.. I ain't sure on what exact study he was referring to, or why was not asked.

Piers Morgan lies more times in this interview than Meghan Markle did in her Oprah interview. He also seems to think that vegans only eat almonds and avocados and that non-vegans never eat avocados and almonds.

No, he's stating the hypocrisy of it. It is a fact that large amounts of bees are killed in almond and avocado agriculture. Vegans eat almonds and avocados, yet they state that they never harm animals when bees are killed in their food production.

Can't stand his interview technique but it wouldn't matter I'd non vegans ate those as they aren't the ones complaining about animals cruelty or save the planet. Reduce emissions etc.
