Trav Dickerson To respond to the seed diet I personally have found so many pigeons that were either abandoned or hurt and raised them myself and then released them. outdoors they eat whatever they can find and I am in the city so pigeons dont have access to grits or seed to much so it was recommended by my avian veterinarian to feed it wild bird food and they will only pick those it can digest or want to eat. The deworming part also recommended by the avian veterinarian was because even if you raise it from baby they have parasites in their gut that is always passed down to them at birth from the parents. They carry different DNA disease in their system so in order to expell it from their bodies at a young age and along with vaccines , they can get a better chance of not passing it to a flock or when hatching their eggs. The veterinarian deworms my pigeons 2 times in the year and then I put it in the ledge of my window platform when I know it can fly already so that if it wants to fly out to join the rest of the pigeons that it sees through the window, it can do so freely. It needs to freely roam the skies and in order to multiply in egg production it needs a pigeon mate. I am not giving it a good chance to do that if I keep it . I would only keep it if it is somehow injured or handicapped. And for those cases I contact a pigeon or bird sanctuary. I feed hundreds of pigeons in different neighborhoods and if we can help them with healthy foods and vitamin A supplements and also see them multiply with other pigeons , then we are doing a great deed to them. If you or anyone wants to keep a pigeon that you own, then that is your right and choice. I am only giving information that the avian specialist did and recommended for the birds I nursed to health with the veterinarian and then released.

Pigeons don't hunt

I have rescued a baby pigeon. There is some difficulty in his legs and wings. As I don't hv any experience before. Can you tell me how I can care them until some vetinary hospital opens

@@chandigarhayurvedapanchkar2395 If it looks like it is injured its legs or wings, keep the bird in a box with a small towel or shirt for warmth. It' s best in this situation to consult a Bird rehabilitation center online or see if you can take the bird to a Avian Veterinarian. They specifically specialize and deal with birds. A regular veterinarian is good too but they dont specialize to much in the needs of Birds and have to do research in order to help. Where as a Avian Veterinarian already knows and has experiences with how to help a injured or sick bird. If you decide to keep the pigeon, I recommend you have it get vaccination in the Veterinarian office that prevents bird Coronavirus or any diseases it can carry and sometimes transferred to humans. They need vaccines and vitamins and also sunlight for vitamin A. Hope this helps. Keep me posted. Hope it goes well for you.
