We have never seen anyone play well when their pigeons were housed in a loft with poor ventilation. A good loft is always dry and well ventilated. the loft must not smell of pigeons when you enter it.
In a loft, you should never block the front face grids even if it is freezing. The pigeon is not cold, does not fear the cold, and will not be cold, believe me. That said, it is necessary to prevent too cold air in the form of a draft from reaching the ground directly, where the pigeon will go to drink or stretch its legs on the ground or worse, from reaching the lockers.
The pigeons produce body heat. The sun beating down on the loft also produces heat. The warm air rises.
If something is not working well in your loft. never give up. Examine the situation carefully.

It explains why my dad's pigeons are sick all the time and my uncle's are in perfect health despite them being kept literally 10 feet from eachother and eating the same feed. My uncle's loft is pretty much perfectly ventilated and dry as a desert so despite keeping more birds than my dad in a smaller space it doesn't smell at all. My dad's loft on the other hand reeks, is damp all the time and there isn't a year he doesn't have multiple dead chicks. No wonder since it has no vent holes and is a repurposed tool shed...

Dampness is a killer all wood floors are best holds heat slant floor rinse cage out I had vents and screen and a nice gardening cloth over screen no dampness just fresh air ❤
