Man alive, watching Veni fly all his Muta's to the enemy base, waiting outside, and then flying home for NO REASON while the enemy had no army was SO PAINFUL. Like there was what, 4 queens and 2 or 3 spores?
@fluffyfang4213
@fluffyfang4213 9 ай бұрын
I was gonna play devil's advocate on this because 4 Queens and 2-3 Spores is actually more defense than Veni had against those Roaches but... 1: Only one Spore was up at the time of the retreat and it wasn't really guarding the Drones. 2: Veni just started banking gas for some reason? Coulda had ~6 more Mutas out by the time the Roaches got across and that would have handled that eventually. 3: Focused the Hatchery instead of the Roaches that were right in front of them, thus prompting the chase in the first place. So uhhh.... yeah... I can try to argue he made a perfectly reasonable play by retreating, but only because he didn't scout, spend his money, or attack priority targets. All of which match the "I already won" attitude.

About your theory: It's probably true that those people have nothing but winning in their mind. But I'd say insulting your opponent when winning comes from insecurity about how to end the game. You get a big endorphine rush when you think the game is won, two seconds after scary thoughts come like "how can i even end this" or "what if i still lose" but you immediately push them away and vent it out on your opponent instead to overpaint the insecurities

To the question of why or how, people can be so toxic in a winning position, most likely, that is how they talk to themselves, when they are losing themselves and probably that is how they were brought up, by their caretakers. Beating a person like this, in a videogame, is like ecposing bad parenting and that is both bitter and sweet. GG

A cool thing about SC2 is that you can’t enthusiastically learn the entire game. If there was a perfect tutorial to teach you every detail about the game your eyes would glaze over at the 200 hour mark no matter who you are. If you ever do stop wanting to learn, yet keep playing, you become bitter. Because you “shouldn’t have to learn **that** stupid part of the game🤬”(whatever that frustrating part of the game may be). So to succeed you need to stay curious, imaginative, and humble. So many things in SC2 are simply unfair (for a modern game’s perspective) and the grit it takes to remain willing to learn is beyond almost all other games. “knowing what you know and what you don’t know” is crucial for as long as the average player plays. Most people stop from the burnout before they stop from because they mastered the game. That’s what’s so hardcore about SC2 to me I hope that made sense i’m pretty sick rn sry

Game 1: I just watched a master's league player play the build I stumbled into that got me out of silver league back in the day. 13 pool because I meant to 12 pool but reflexively made a drone, then as the pool finished I had 3 larva and 300 minerals so I made a queen and 6 ling, then it lined up to escort the drone to build the nat. That build got me from silver to platty, but then I couldn't do enough damage to that league with the 6 lings so I had to learn standard builds. Anyways, I never expected to see a master league player doing it.

@Santisima_Trinidad

Honestly, if you just have a build order and can Macro decently, getting to master's isn't too difficult. And you get actual Pros, people who make the average grandmaster player look like their in platinum league, who don't/barely use control groups, instead reyking on boxing units very rapidly and keeping the game a bit chaotic to shatter other more "standard" players.

It's tough to identify a smurf from gameplay. Match history makes it obvious though. When they rack up 10 defeats or more in a row in an hour, that's someone auto leaving games. Pig, I know you say smurfs aren't common, but I beg to differ, and they were in fact the reason I moved on to other games. Here's how I came to that conclusion: I didn't worry about my losses, instead I looked at my "wins" from people leaving at match start. When anyone did that I checked their match history. If they had giant losing streaks in not a lot of time then that's a smurf. More than half my "wins" were to auto leavers. If that's the case then it stands to reason that smurfing has become a "everybody does it" thing which makes it self reinforcing, and that a similar proportion of my losses were to smurfs. At that point I figured I was in the minority by playing honestly and had two options: "When in Rome..." or move on to other games.

10 defeats in a row isn't necessarily smurfing, I've gotten 10 defeats or more because I decided I want to play SC2 at 2AM after being out drinking, or after not playing any games for two weeks, or just decided to play a 'dumb' strat on my main account to see if it can work, need to take a look on the build order tab for a few games to decide

I’ve played many competitive games and they are all fairly toxic in their own regard. However, RTS games are the upper echelon of toxicity. It just attracts the worst kind of human on earth. I was talking to a friend who’s diamond in LoL and I asked if it was as bad in LoL as it is in other games and I referred to the amount of times someone has “hoped I got cancer” and he was like like “wow the amount of times people have told me that as well is insanely high”. Horrible, horrible people.

As someone who has played LoL a lot, LoL is about as bad as it gets (other than, apparently roblox games but let's not talk about that). LoL both creates an environnement that encourages flaming a lot by being very competitive and relying on teammates to win ( which means 1) You always have someone to blame for things going wrong 2) you increase the odds of someone bad being in the game by having a lot of players 3) you create a lot of frustration when losing can happen because of something you have no control over) AND it has a lot of downtime leaving player time to express their frustration, in particular when they're losing cause dead players don't have much else to do than talk in chat anyway. It's like the perfect cocktail to cause as toxic an environnement as possible. Deciding to stop playing that game has been the best decision of my life and has genuinely improved my mental health noticeably. It's that bad. (and I'll not go into the in game mechanisms that make the game itself addictive meaning you're likely to play it way beyond the point where it isn't fun anymore)

To be fair there does come a point where someone staying in an obviously lost game is itself bm, and I think that kind of sort of maybe warrants a question mark or something, but veni's game was not to that point yet (clearly since he ended up losing), and you can tell he was just on the edge of his seat ready to start gloating.

As a player who plays at the Asia server in diamond 2, and seeing apm of 250-350 every game from my opponent, i have to agree. Smurfing isn't a problem. They are probably just super weak in the mirror matchup with their 5-10% winrate and 80+ in the other two. And that every 5:th to 10:th game, the opponent just leaves before 5 sec, yeah, i do agree. :) (That Masters douche losing, aaah, that felt good, i really dislike the early ggs:ers) :D

to be fair with the pvp rager, it is quite infuriating when you're ranked gold or low plat and you play a few games in a row vs diamond+ players. not to the point of insulting the other guy, but to the point of just stop playing right away. i tried to play a few weeks ago after like 6years. played all my games vs plat player while being ranked silver. i just got fucked so bad every times that i don't plan replaying anytime soon.
