It's a trainwreck you can't stop watching! The Unstoppable rides again in the Ultimate Lego Remake! Inspired by true events, an unmanned train barrels down the tracks, and all hope rides with two engineers to stop the Unstoppable!

I believe it's a custom built locomotive, using the base of one of the official Lego locomotives. I'm sorry I can't help more, hope your son can make it one day!

It is expensive, but I know BricksNorthwest on Etsy has good lego trains, including AWVR locomotives.

Although it would have been awesome to see a lego 777 almost fly off of a lego made Stanton Curve, but I'm fine with it not being in, because this short lego film is still awesome!
