Pikmin 3 glitch: Continuing to play after beating the game

I accidentally found this glitch yesterday, and I made this video about it because it's a really interesting glitch that feels like it should be important but turns out to not be very useful at all. This video explains how to perform the glitch and shows its effects.
This glitch is only possible in the Deluxe version of the game, as in the Wii U version the voyage log is shown on the GamePad and it's not possible to navigate it separately from the day bubbles.
Topics for further research: I don't think the voyage logs and the dialog before each day are random. Often I get the same one multiple days in a row. Also of note is that the voyage log at 2:47 is actually the one that appears if you get between 0 and 32 fruits, yet here it appears when I have 66 fruits. It will take some analysis to work out how these things are actually selected.

A few more things were found with this glitch in the days after I uploaded this video. @MushKinPuff found that if you have Pikmin sprouts planted near the Swooping Snitchbug in the Distant Tundra from previous days, the Swooping Snitchbug can pick up captains and throw them to separate them from the active captain, and this allows those captains to automatically pluck those Pikmin. By walking into those captains with Go Here!, it's possible to get Pikmin into the squad, but you still can't do anything with them. However, if you go to the location of the Anti-Electrifier, the Arctic Cannon Larva can get Pikmin separated from the squad in a way that puts them in the right place to start digging the Anti-Electrifier out of the ground and carry it once it's out, so it is possible to collect that upgrade. She also found that you cannot jump on/off lily pads, and you cannot use the Assemble All feature of the S.S. Drake.

Now that's pretty fascinating. Even though most controls are disabled and there's not much of anything interesting to do, the presence of this as an option is still a very neat discovery. Cool stuff, this is a very good video.

I mean, they did. It's not addressed at all in Olimar's Comeback (though not outright retconned), but Louie was left behind when the Koppaites and Olimar left at the end of Pikmin 3.

I wonder why the controls stop working when you play after beating the plasm wraith. Maybe defeating it activates some kind of trigger that prevents input at all to ensure something doesn’t go wrong in the defeat cutscene? But then why do the menus work fine? Maybe it only disables regular field inputs? Honestly it’s kind of fascinating that this is even possible at all, ngl.

Any cut-scene in any game disables the player controls. Normally, there would be a trigger to re-activate them, which just isn't the case here. Most games operate with story flags, an indicator of what part of the storyline you're in that all other aspects of the game will draw from when needed. This "post game" flag wouldn't be accounted for properly, and as such even something like landing into an area which would normally reactivate player controls, doesn't as it doesn't know what it's supposed to be doing during this part of the narrative.

An interesting thing about this glitch is that since they don't consume a bottle of juice after defeating the Plasm Wraith, you can reach Day 100. I'm not sure if you can "play" on Day 100, since I saw a video of it just being a black screen after Day 99 is done. I'm currently in the process of consuming all of the juice I have (79 left at the time of writing).

Thanks! I don't really have many ideas for glitch videos though, since other Pikmin 3 glitches have already been documented by other people. There's one more glitch I want to make a video about, but it's really complex and I might not have time to make it by the time Pikmin 4 comes out. I'll see if I get around to it.

finished a playthrough yesterday. Forgot about not being able to continue. I went back to a previous day and finished off my fruit collecting. Luckily the gold blob dude was still waiting for me when I landed back there after finishing the other areas off. I wouldn’t have wanted to redo the whole oak again that was painful

Captains won't automatically start plucking pikmin if you're controlling them, and you can't throw the captains, so you'll always be controlling them

Odd question, is there a known way to get into "Day END" with the Plasm Wraith alive? On the in-game leaderboard graph for ultra-spicy there's a bar for 52 days, implying a nonzero number of people have finished an all-fruit run in 52 days (which shouldn't be possible normally). I'm trying to figure out how that could have been accomplished (assuming it wasn't cheated since, well, honestly it'd be weird to cheat just to get the worst score known to man).

Okay, I have a really curious question that this video didn't show. What happens if this glitch is done on a savefile that completed the game on day 99? In this case, the final boss is defeated on day 99, the max limit for spending on the planet. Since kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r695Y5V0qprNeac.html shows that hacking in more juice bottles softlocks the game at day 99 (Shown better than explained), by doing this glitch may bypass this trigger to game over on day 99, and may allow access to day 100. I need someone to try this out if they Pik3DX, and they have a savefile with all the fruits obtained.

This is exclusive to Pikmin 3 Deluxe because you can't switch days this way in the original game. I haven't tested what happens when you run out of juice but I imagine it'd be the same as what happens normally.

This is why i never finished pikmin 3, the juice mechanic time constraint... They should have made it still playable and without any fruit needed anymore when you beat the final boss. this way you can just do whatever for fun. Pikmin 1 suffer from similar constraint but its excusable, it's the first game. I dunno why they downgraded after pikmin 2 however. im glad pikmin 4 is more like pikmin 2
