Every 4,000 hours of flight time we perform a detailed corrosion inspection on our aircraft. This inspection was performed on a SurfAir Pilatus PC-12 manufactured in Switzerland.

As someone who works in the industry, I just want to say thank you for going by the book. I've seen so many mechanics that cut corners. I know many of them that would have blended the corrosion on the actuator, hit with some anti corrosion, and never thought anything else about it all to save a dollar. Could that actuator work fine and the corrosion wasn't that bad? Correct, but it wouldn't have been by the book. As you stated, the manual says that if there's any corrosion...and you handled it beautifully. Thank you for your attitude and leadership.

Garret R they are certified by the FAA, before they had jobs at Surf, they had to satisfy an FAA examiner...the company doesn't "let them" the company NEEDS them to do this work.

Most likely they got fired or in trouble for filming while they should be working. Not trying to be a jerk by that statement, but I've been an aircraft mechanic for 25 years and filming yourself while working wouldn't fly at just about any place.

My only complaint is I couldt see the corrosion because it was moving around, basically unsteady and not long enough. It's like see here and here but you get .01 seconds to see it. So, I'll just take you're word for it. So surface corrosion is a down squawk? What is Pilatus going to do with it? NDE, paint and send it back? I'm surprised you can't do a dye pen and return to service. Be safe, have fun.

Is it really corrosion ? It looks like a typical small paint/lacquer loss without any infuence on mechanical properties or flight safety (mayby I'am wrong).

James Sullivan What was the total flight time for the replacement ?
@JamesSullivans
@JamesSullivans 7 жыл бұрын
Just under four thousand hours. Like I mentioned in the video the actuator we installed has a newer corrosion preventative paint in that area. I also reached out to Pilatus to confirm the rest of our fleet has the new design. That actuator gets removed for overhaul every five thousand hours anyways so just a little early.

Does your employer ever worry about any of these videos surfacing during possible litigation? I note that you never seem to show, or emphasize reference to a MM when performing a procedure, or conducting a functional test, much less having work inspected and the paperwork signed off.
