So, as a treat, I thought that I would take the bikeless Bigglesworth out on Merlin!
Nearly 200kgs of British Beef near the maximum load limit for the bike...

I can't remember the last time I took a pillion, but on Monday I will be going pillion on the back of my dad's Triumph Bonneville... he is 79 years old and still likes to open up the throttle! :D

@@CaptainRambunctious I remember giving him a lift when I was a lot younger and lighter, and he was a lot fatter... my CBR couldn't keep the front wheel down, he must have thought I was trying to kill him! :D Am hoping now roles are reversed, his Triumph is a bit better balanced than that Honda was! :D

@@CaptainRambunctious And it certainly looked it too! Good to see how well Speedies take a pillion. Yet to convince anyone to ride shotgun on mine but I took my old man on the back of a 95 Thunderbird last year... A very different riding experience eh!

Very good vid Cpt! I have a 2021 Speedmaster on order and, though I put my missus on the back very briefly on a test ride, I was still worried she would be ok on the back. If your giant sack-of-potatoes buddy is ok (him, you *and* Merlin), then I'm pretty sure I'll be fine with the missus! Thanks! Would love to meet up with the squadron some time! ;^)

Great to hear we’ve helped! My wife also found the ‘pad’ on the back to be fine for her but we only went for an hour ride… It’s great to know that we can give good consumer advice when pratting about! 😁

Absolutely brilliant, the banter and chat really brightens up the day. For Bigglesworth, why not look at things like SC project exhausts, or even TEC pipes, they`re pretty good, and won`t break the bank. Also, a decat X pipe often makes the bike run better and helps keep the engine cooler due to less back pressure.

From what I understand, under Eu5 emission standards, Triumph have engineered their new bikes to be highly resistant to exhaust mods. No remapping will be available apparently. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, the cat is welded in position so although an x pipe would be technically possible it would be a pain in the arse! 😂 The TEC exhaust is 2 into 1 which in not keen on, and the SC projects don't have the looks for me. Current options are a one off exhaust made by a small company in Nottingham, Predator pros (although I just don't think they look special enough) or wait for a used pair of V&H on eBay!!! 🤣

@@ErgonBill No remapping but the ECU will still self learn as it has been doing for last 5 years... so mod away, just don't take the lambda sensors out or it can't work it out...

loving the bike, how tall are you? Im about 6ft 2 and thinking I may be too tall for one of these.

I’m 6’1 but have long legs to body ratio. 33” inside leg. I know a 6’4 rider who finds his speedmaster fine… I just got the flat bars instead of the beach bars for more elbow room. I felt the beach bars were too close to me.

@@CaptainRambunctious yes I do like them bars you have on it. Im looking at moving away from sports bikes. I was considering the Indian scout, but like the look of the speedmaster too. I have a soft spot for Triumphs. :) But I also quite like the look of the FTR1200 Indian. Too much choice lol.

@@ttmadness34 in that case do a test ride! I’ve heard great things about the Indian scout but my friend who rode one the day before he rode my bike, says the Triumph handles a lot better with more ground clearance.

Hey Cap, I noticed Merlin doesn't have his brass fuel cap in this episode. But by the time you and Bigglesworth go out with his new Thruxton RS. Personally I don't like the fairing. I like the fly fairings more. Y'all should have swapped seats and you could experience being a pillion. Course u may like letting someone else drive Merlin. You have to realize the pillion seat has 0 spring like your saddle seat. Tally Ballysweet Cap 👍

I've ridden pillion only twice...cbr1000 and fzr400 and the only thing I found was in the braking banging helmets 😆and a horrendous compulsion to feet down at stops😳atb dave

Yep, it's a weird feeling that! I think we stopped once and your brain has to fight it. Same as leaning into corners. Me: "Must.... not.... lean... in... any... way... " My brain: "But we're going round a corner you fool, I want to lean, it's not natural! Argh argh argh. You bastard... listen to my command! Give me control of your limbs!" Me: ""You.... shall... not...PASSSS!"

A+++. Did you have anti-wheelie control activated on Merlin? You both on Merlin could easily have been characters in Whacky Races. Interesting what Bigglesworth was saying about Triumph no longer offering after market exhausts. I spec'd up a new Triumph Speed Triple RS a couple of weeks ago and there was no option for after market exhausts. Shame.
