Pilot Custom Urushi vs. Custom 845 Urushi

Here are my thoughts about these two Urushi pens from pilot. the Custom Urushi is the larger pen with a number 30 propriatory pilot nib, while Custom 845 Urushi sports a number 15 nib. They are both awesome. See my impressions and which one I would choose. Cheers.

Great review! I always wanted to know the difference. I think you’re best saving your money for the larger pen.

I have got a Custom Urushi directly from Japan, to give it a second chance. Yet to ink. The nib looks much different & better than the previous one which I had, which was a flop show.

Thank you for this review. I have a bit of an uneven question for you: How does the Pilot Custom Urushi compare to the Pelikan m800 and Sailor King of Pen, as far as writing experience? The reason I ask is because I've never experienced a Pelikan m1000 (and I don't intend to...), and I'm looking for a japanese large nib writing experience comparable to the m800, which is just right for me, as far as writing goes. Also I heard the m1000's writing feel is a marked departure from the m800's...

Kop is much softer. M800 is stiff nib... I say m800 is more like custom 823. M1000 has a distinct writing experience [I have a video comparing all my m800s and m1000s]. I say nothing beats the large custom urushi. M1000 is very nice pen. I would be torn if I were to chose between m1000 and pilot cu. M1000 is more practical though.

@@Shak-MD Thank you for your frank response! That's the sort of guidance I was looking for. You make a strong case for the M1000 however... My concern is that I've seen the forums a good bit divided on the M1000 for writing experience, hence the reason for my hesitation... I don't have the benefit of trying one around me, as the closest shop to me is a fair distance away, and they don't even carry this one in-store...

@@unworthyServant08it’s hard to beat the M1000 for the price. I would have a hard time picking the Custom Urushi over the M1000, and you’re saving a bit of money as well. The writing experience is awesome with the a M1000. It’s very soft in a way that I have not experienced with another nib.

PCU has the better bounce. Over time it does get a bit out of alig. But as a package, the emperor is a superior pen.... the ink Reservoir and writing experience in the right size hands is hard to beat.
