*Getting artifacts in the video? For best quality, manually select 1080p quality, as depending on your bandwidth, KZfaq may default to 720p - and KZfaq's 720p compression looks like garbage*

I really like that the early sx-70's have that metal that covers the ribbon next to the gears im so afraid of it getting torn

I recently modified my SX-70 to use i-Type as well, but I didn't want something permanently fixed to the camera, so I added pogo pin connectors to the back. The flat connector design fits flush with the camera body and it allows me to attach any 6V power source by wiring the same connector. [repost: I forgot KZfaq immediately removes comments with links. Just wanted to share the reddit post showing the mod I did.] The PolaVolt is a pretty ideal design opposed to those that replaced the entire bottom shell or involved cutting through the leather skin. I just wasn't ready for permanently attaching something to the camera. The sonar module's added bulk was what made me prefer the non-AF SX-70. I do like the idea of a PolaVolt pack that could attach magnetically like magsafe power banks on iPhones. Future ideas maybe???

As always an enjoyable SX-70 mystery experience and very useful info re identifying the Fairchild and Texas Instruments shutter serial numbers. Thank you. Great job. With regard to the film counter - as the new generation films only have 8 pictures - do you a service to alter the counter so that when a new film pack is entered it counts down from 8 rather than 10 ? I haven’t seen you do this in any other video. One of the U.K. restorers I do know offers this service.

It's a terrible idea in my opinion. I've written about this in an Instagram post I did a month or two ago

@@theinstantcameraguy Thanks. I saw on a youtube new video that came out yesterday that the content provider had had this done to her camera and she was so excited about it. I will check out your Instagram post on this.

@@theinstantcameraguy For some reason I had not followed you on Instagram. That’s now sorted. Found your post on the “ modification” to a 8 numbered counter. A sticker !!! That peel off. I can see why you stay away from this modification

@@monochromebluess precisely I always suspected they would peel off over time, and my suspicions were confirmed after seeing one in the flesh

@@monochromebluess you've forced me to think a bit more about the film counter... While I think that a sticker is a bad idea due to its ability to peel off... I did have a thought... Using acetone, or sandpaper... or a soldering iron to melt the plastic - one can REMOVE the final two digits "1" and "0", effectively making "2" the final number, before the dial goes totally blank. While not a perfect solution, this would at least provide an indicator that the camera is empty
