Great Video this should help me a lot I have a 1958 Williams Tic Tac Toe that my Parents bought for me back in around 1970 and it just cycles when started and I was told by another owner that owned 2 of the same machines he had the same issue and it was the 10,000 point stepper that was "Gummed up"

Great video man! I was really intimidated in starting my first pinball EM project. But you have a way of explaining it and making it seems so much less complicated. Great stuff!

You are welcome. I'm trying to do more videos covering different mechanics - the problem has been having the machines to work on with the problems to cover. I've got 3 new 1970's era single player EMs. All three have unique issues. That gives me something to work on.

I have two of those screwdrivers and they're awesome. I got them around 1999-ish and used them in my computer store for years. I probably assembled and repaired 1000s of computer workstations with them. I need to get new batteries for them. They're starting to die.

Thanks for the excellent video, Steven! I just bought my first EM last weekend, and tackling the steppers has been at the top of my to-do list, but I didn't know how to go about it. This video definitely helped me feel comfortable with getting in there.

Williams Super-Flite. I've avoided EMs because I knew there would be a lot to learn, but this deal was too good to pass up! I'll definitely check out the free play video - that's something else on my to-do list.

Great video, thank you. I have an issue that I hope you can help me with. 1974 Bally Amigo My problem is that when I press the game start (credit) button, the score reels do not reset to all zeros. They will only advance one or two numbers. For example: I put them all on ones (1 - 1 - 1 - 1) then press start and they will advance one or two numbers (2 - 2 - 3 - 2). They all score properly, no sticky or gummed up score wheels. Now... I wonder if this is my problem - Just before this started happening my machine would totally shut down when the score hit 100. The problem was the 100 point chime coil was fried. I simply disconnected the coil and it works great now except for the score reels not zeroing. I wonder if it needs the chime coil to complete some scoring reset circuit? Any ideas? Thanks!

Good information for people that are intimated by working on stepper units. The only negative procedure I seen was of lubrication. Pretty much a no no. Anyone who wants to argue this point out can give Steve young a call and get a earful.

I know there are some people in the no-lube at all camp. I like to use it only in the areas I pointed out in the video. A small amount of Teflon grease helps a little with lubrication, but more importantly it protects this area from corrosion (this is also the reason I put it on the contact points). The synthetic greases shouldn't dry out or get gunky and shouldn't gather dust and dirt like a standard oil. (I would never recommend something like 3 in 1 oil.) If the machine is always kept in an area where it will not get rusty, then you are probably fine running it dry. But who knows where this machine will be in 10 years. I might sell it and it might end up in another garage. The little bit of grease I added will help prevent this point from rusting together. Worst case, the synthetic formula in my grease breaks down and in 40 years some dude is making a 3D, VR, hologram video on how to clean it out.

Looking at a duotron for my first EM pin. Seller locally has one in very good condition. Playfield and back glass look to be in great shape. Cabinet art looks nice also.Seller says it lights up but when turned on it gets hung up when it boots up. He will take $350. Any thoughts if it is a stepper motor issue and worth $350? Great video and I subscribed.

It could be several things which would cause it to not fully cycle. If it powers up and just tries to reset, and the reset motor just spins, those are usually easier to figure out then when you power up and it does nothing. The price sounds pretty good. Have a look inside the machine and see how it looks. If the metal isn't rusted and it looks pretty clean inside, I'd say go for it.

NO the Best thing to clean before any change is to use 'EXTRA HOLD HAIRSPRAY" , Spray works best... The Alcohol Cleans and at the same time acts as a protective sealant. Best On Mother boards and Back bottom of Play-fields ! Saw him do this on his other videos
