It’s amazing to watch the deer harvest mushrooms. Especially the MATSUTAKE ! They will pop them out with a front hoof like it’s nothing.

They only eat the non buggy ones. 😆 That's just smart.

Love your videos. You are the first KZfaqr that said you got a permit to pick mushrooms in the forest. That is good information to know . Thanks.

He is a commercial picker. Very closely regulated. For personal use, it’s free, but a lot of people don’t bother. You just download a piece of aper so not really worth mentioning.

Thanks for posting that informative video! While I suppose that some other foragers, especially other commercial pickers, might be upset with you for doing so, I appreciate that you are willing to divulge the general location and elevation where you were harvesting. It certainly helps someone new to Matsutakes like me form an idea of what to look for in similar habitat conditions at this season. Thanks again.

You're welcome. 😊 When I first started, someone took the time to teach me, probably most of the foragers as well. I'm just paying it forward. Most of you will take out of this as just a fun activity to do while enjoying the outdoors and taking back home some delicious edible mushrooms home to eat. Happy foraging! 😊

@@mushroomsforagingadventures Kudos to you sir! I appreciate the "paying it forward" attitude. Indeed, as an old fart who is kinda retired--how is it that I seem more overwhelmed with tasks than ever now 🤣?--I'm trying to do some of that myself in a couple areas where I've acquired knowledge and skills, including mushroom foraging for personal consumption the species and habitat that I already comfortably know. The amount that I pick for myself and a few neighbors will never be a detrimental impact on commercial pickers because I do, indeed, see it "as just [another] fun activity to do while enjoying the outdoors." Good luck with your KZfaq channel as well as your mushroom hunting!

GM Brother , Just got back from the Coast , just seeing your video now . Great foraging info and tips as always. Moist areas near Kalaloch beach showing early signs of Lobster with fresh new Russula's popping. Found some beautiful King's and Chicken of the woods. Love your videos very intuitive . Appreciate you . 🍄❤

Thank you for doing it with a permit. There's place with carloads of people from Washington and Oregon that has no permits and pickers everywhere.
@mushroomsforagingadventures10 ай бұрын
It's easier to just get a permit than having to worry about getting caught by the Forest Rangers. 😃

How come nobody does videos about selling them though? 🤔

At the beginning of the video you mentioned you weren't used to finding them "this way". Is it the area or habitat you were referring to? I find them in Colorado in similar habitat, although it seems a little drier where you are. Pines are the most challenging/rewarding to find! Great video!
@mushroomsforagingadventures11 ай бұрын
@dkennedy4459- Habitat , It's different than Washington habitat. Pretty high elevation at 6100 ft. Not as high as Colorado. 😅 I have picked here, but that's over a decade ago.

Great video as always. I need to go Bend sometime on a weekend trip. Volume a bit low.

What's the elevation in this place? Trying to see when WA will have some
@mushroomsforagingadventures11 ай бұрын
@@otakusan2003Foragers are averaging only a basket or less. The elevation is 6100 ft to 6200 ft. Hope that helps. 😊

What do you do with them? Frying? Put in a jar with solt?
@mushroomsforagingadventures11 ай бұрын
@Polinakotok- Grill, Fry, put them in soup. To preserve them, lean them and cut it up and vacuum seal and store it in you freezer,, or you can dry them in a dehydrator.

@@mushroomsforagingadventures That is too bad. Most pickers are probably lucky to make gas and permit money. I remember back in the day when we used to get hundreds and gas was a buck fifty. Sold them to Leo and Rick in Chemult. Getting much more now for chanties but they are still spotty in my neck of the woods. I wonder if the forest service is still charging for matsutake permits like they are hope diamonds. Is Jack V. still around?
