Thanks Tony, I'll never forget going to my first bonsai club meeting. A guy rocks up with this massive impressive bonsai for a club crit. I was like 'wow' and asked him what the history of the tree was. He replied 'I grew it from seed 30 years ago'. He still sows seeds today.

Lovely video Tony, nice to see you working on your mums table,joke. My latest from seed are still either cherry or plum or both, but have regularly done lemon. Also succeeded with almonds, germination is better than keeping them alive, from 14 I've got 3. Got some spruce and pine to have a go with so will try. Some maples and whitebeam I have outside haven't done anything neither have the acorns, still hoping with them. Keep growing.xx

Ive had scots and black pines sprouting since the end of September! By spring I should have well over 100! The tissue in the fridge/ window sil method is by far the best. Talkin of scots pines. My local nature reserve have been redesigning the car park area and they dug up a 7 foot pine and chucked it on the recycling pile. Needless to say it is now planted in my garden. Winning!

Its an addiction to watch things grow and progress over time as u manipulate everything that goes on in its life and care for it. I tried from seeds but they died. I got too busy but may try again this spring. Ive also watched momiji-en put a screen lightly on top of them and as they grow they bend into the screen on top of them to get some twists. Hes got a very good maple channel if u havnt heard of him

I'm agree with you Tony, starting from seed and is like giving birth to a future bonsai, and i wire most of my seedlings and cuttings in their first year to start good movement in the trunks..nothing wrong with that mate, you have to be light handed and gentle with them but usually its successful and tree's grown from seed end up with nice trunk flare compaired to my cuttings i find. Hope they grow well for you.🌱

The more I get into bonsai, the more I am seeing the value in starting with young material. It's great working on a big old yamadori, but it is all about dealing with problems. With young trees we can design them to hopefully be fault free to a certain extent.

Nice work, I've got a dozen or so Black pines I bought last year as seedlings and wired them immediately. Some of them do look a bit ropey but they have buds so I'm hoping for a strong growing year this year to start fattening them up. I also lean towards to making really small trees so seedlings are perfect!

If may I give a suggestion: it would be desirable to cut the taproot in that repot. In fact, with pines, I do it as early as when the first real lives appear.

Tony, the seedlings look very, very healthy 👌. I had not much luck with use of regular mineral bonsai soil for sowing conifers and I'm going to return to more organic composition. If you could once again give us the soil recipe? And another question about cutting off the whole root part of very young seedlings to create compact well ramified small form. Are you considering this technique? There's a fiew videos on YT showing it.
@TonysBonsai
@TonysBonsai Жыл бұрын
Hi PAwel. Yes I am going to try that technique in a furure video. I have plenty of little seedlings so I'm going to test it out. I know bonsiafy does well cutting off all the roots. My soil is pine bark, grit, perlite and compost in equal parts, but I have just this morning ordered a load of coco coir which I will be using going forward instead of the compost for certain trees, and pines are definitely in that group.
