Our Story:
We are five years into a seven year effort of transforming 20 acres of "Piney Grove" in Northwest Florida into our dream homestead/mini farm to be filled with animals and joy. We plan to have a variety of miniature critters on our pastures, raise free-range chickens, grow fish in our pond, garden, plant fruit and nut trees, and harvest wild game. Our goal is

Hey Brock. We got a ton of rain from Hurricane Nicholas that hit Texas last week so I was glad I pumped it down. I was out there yesterday and natural evaporation and seepage has it about a foot below that stake I put in the ground. Still nice and full!

Looks like you need a Keyway leading into a swale. Use the swale soil to raise driveway/walking path.

It was a record rainfall year so we're going to take a wait and see approach to any overflow solution. Same with the walking path but knowing me, I'll get bored and dig out the pond more and move dirt just because it's fun! Thanks for the comment. Brad

Those pumps put out more volume at a low RPM. HIGH RPM will give you more pressure, but less volume. Drain pipe at dam would solve your problem.

I'll keep the RPMs in mind if I ever have to pump it again. It's significantly lower now in November so I need to find a way to seal it to keep the water I capture. More to come on this project! Thanks for watching. Brad&Deb

Seems if you use a ditch witch and lay a pipe from your inlet to outlet, with a protective grate on the inlet, you could set it up to automatically drain off anything above the level you want, maintenance free.

Yes, a permanently installed overflow pipe would fix this but we're still evaluating the frequency that the pond gets this full. Thanks for watching. Brad&Deb

Would be possible to set up a siphon system? I cannot determine the topography of the site but if the land is sloped away from the pond you could set up a 4 or 6 inches siphon and not have to burn gasoline to draw down the pond.

Build your road up with Clay dirt so when it filled up with water again it won't cover your road

It was a record rainfall year for our area, so we don't expect the pond will be that full very often. We only pumped it down because we had concrete coming for a house slab and the concrete trucks will not drive through water. The water level is 4' lower than that picture because we haven't had significant rain this fall. Thanks for watching!

So that fence is your property line and the water your pumping is draining across to the other side?.

Mary, thanks for watching. Water historically drained off our hill to the low area the fence bisects. If we hadn’t dug the pond, all the water in the pond would already be in that area.
