Well, this is just too good to be believed. Non oboe players may not realize how brilliant this playing is, or how incredibly hard it is to play the oboe like this. There may be a better oboe sound in the world, but I have not heard it. The San Francisco Symphony is very lucky to have Mr. Izotov as its Principal Oboist.

It is very beautiful, and his musical phrasing is phenomenal. But with regards to the oboe sound itself, I think Celine Moinet's tone is unparalleled - simply sublime.

Mayer is a wonderful oboist, but in terms of tone / sound quality, Celine Moinet is BETTER! She produces the most sublime oboe sound ever!!

@@Xingqiwu387 I would say François Leleux. More inclined to the European sound and interpretation.

@@mustysheep3977 No way. His vibrato and interpretation is kind of boring. François Leleux all the way! I understand they come from different schools of oboe playing but I prefer the risks European oboe players take, also the type of phrasing, the way they use vibrato and sound quality as well. I understand all of this falls into personal preferences, so I don't want to open a debate here.

Ich bin eine Urenkelin von Kalliwoda. Mit Freude höre ich dieses Salonstueck. Es ist brillant intoniert.

this interpretation for me really captured some of the "salon" moments that others have missed (including myself), something about the laid back jocularity you bring to this really drives it home with greater clarity that this is music with a humorous twist. Of course any oboist knows this one is a fatigue-inducing work that is harder than it sounds, but here...even an oboist might be fooled otherwise!

It's all hard works and experience that hold the second half together and delivered an elegant yet exciting performance. Respect!
