Death Wobble? Changing your Pinion Angle might not be your best option for correcting Driveline Vibrations. Positive Caster is what helps you drive down the road in a straight line.

This is one of the best videos about bump steer, from adding front axle shims I've watched. Never add shims or lift blocks to your front axle. I've only watched a few videos, but I subscribed. I got a gut feeling that you are in B.C., I'm in A.B., central Alberta. Red Deer where the Rockies are about an hour and a half away. I find your channel entertaining and informative. I really should visit my relatives in B.C. some day, and do some wheeling. My biggest problem is that I sold my '80 Ramcharger, and bought an '80 Powerwagon, Club cab, long box. Definetly not a trail rig. 4" lift, 35's, 360 4 bbl, and a 4 spd. It's as long as a school bus and rides like one.

on our 1998 grand Cherokee had terrible death wobble. tried the usual ideas, nothing worked. Until we got all new stock sized wheels and tires. PO had bought heavy fancy expensive 18 inch wheels with big tires. Getting rid of them solved the DW. They were too big and heavy. New wheel and ties also got better mpg. Took us about a year to figure out the problem.

I just went through this on my XJ. Good info. I generally try to run as much positive caster as possible without introducing driveline vibrations. In my case, the magic number was 7 degrees of positive caster. Very stable.

+Pabst Boys Roadhouse 5 is definitely enough to be nice and stable. Personally I'd be happy with anything over 4. Overall very good advice. If folks don't know exactly what they're doing, they're better off leaving it alone. I had originally rotated my pinion up to the point of having very little caster angle in an attempt to chase away a driveline vibration. Turns out the vibration was an out of balance front driveshaft. Had it rebalanced, and I was able to get a good caster angle back. Great vid boys.

There is only one way to get these angles right. Set pinion angle. Cut welds on inner knuckles. Rotate knuckles to correct caster setting and weld in place. Jeep also sells offset ball joints to make small adjustments in caster and camber.

Hey guys , great vid .So got a 2 door jk ,lifted 6 inches, went with a tom woods 1350 w/double cardons for my rear shaft . Manufacturer instructs to have the pinion angle run directly in line with the shaft. The correction is possible with my adjustable control arms but the angle starts getting dramatic for all other mounts ,especially the coils perches .My proposed remedy is it have all mounts( aside from upper control arm bracket ) cut . before hand I would determine the change in angle from level to aligned with shaft . Then apply the same change in degrees to new mounts and brackets (from artec 🤤) . I know there are shims and such ,and also the change and degrees woln't be exact so probably some tacking and playing around will have to be done after the fact . But I'd be fine with extra cost and work as long as its produces feasible results . My question to y'all is do you think the process and result would be acceptable ?

I think that has got to be the best demonstration that could have ever been given on this subject. already well read up on this but just seeing other perspectives. thanks guys. SAS 'd Chevy of course springs came with a pinion kicker since there rear lift springs of course , I believe kicked my caster out way to much. plus a load of worn parts . let the fun begin.

Man, I was going through withdrawals waiting for another video. Tech question: Since I've regeared from 3.73 to 4.88 I've developed a vibration from the front at highway speeds that is only present when the driveshaft is installed. I had it rebuilt and rebalanced and the vibration is less pronounced but still there. I've just settled on driving to the trail and installing it before I drop in. I wonder if the stock driveshaft is just going to do that or if the shop didn't do its job balancing it properly. 4.88's and 33"s at highway speeds spins it much faster. I only have 3" of lift and it's apparent that pinion angle is not the issue. What do you think?

You're not changing the angle at the spindle. Bad Info. The spindle is round, lol. Your changing the castor at the Inner C. Pointing the rear pinion UP is fine. Pointing the front pinion up sends the castor into the negative. The steering plane now points into the ground, which is bad. Keep the front pinion flat as you can
