Barrett certainly doesn't look pleased. By the end of the song he is no longer lip synching. Legendary!

Sid may have been impossible but look at him. besides the music, He created that look that SO many copied through the years. HE was the most interesting person up there.

By this time - Syd had become impossible - both Mason & Waters were giving him the death stare - they all knew he had to go if the band was to any chance to survive ..

@@menudo666 ~~ agreed - some of the songs on those records are brilliant - but the performance & production quality on most tracks is not well done - more like rough demo versions - he was very difficult to work with by that time - even Gilmour was frustrated with him as he tried to help him produce his solo records ..

It would have been better if Syd Barett had eaten apples and oranges instead!!! Unfortunately Syd took too many drugs!! Unfortunately he had the wrong friends.. He hung out with junkies too much.. A real tragedy for Syd and the whole family!!! He was still taking drugs on his 2 solo albums from 1970.. Drug addiction is an illness.. On his solo albums Syd was on the verge of schizophrenia.. Psychiatry wasn't ready back then.. Syd obviously wasn't ready for therapy either... He didn't get out of the car 🚙.. Syd could have become something.. He failed as a painter and musician.. I'm interested in how Syd lived with his illness ??? Unfortunately there are no more books in German...

It was the studio version and they all lip synched, just like Top of the Pops.

No disagreement here... the song is utter pablum... but it is terrific to see the very early footage.

@@PMunkS Waters liked this Barrett song but hated the production and that production is further compromised here. The problem is that it's lip synched and Barrett had broken leaving everyone depressed in one way or another. I don't see how it's pablum. In any case: pablum is good for kids. It's also what beer is made out of for adults.

@@Paolo8772 Hiya Paolo... I concede that it may be a terrible performance. Most made for TV appearances of the time were heavily scripted/staged as was customary for the period... *less* organic than a concert stage performance. As many of the early Beatles songs were catchy teen love jingles suited to a generation emerging from a decade of post-war pop, I view "Apples and Oranges" as Pink Floyd's equivalent to "Love Me Do". The band's songwriting is just fledging at this time, before taking to the heights that they would - as you and I and everyone watching this video knows, would inevitably reach. Its interesting to consider that none of the young men performing in this video yet knew the beautiful music that they would go on to create and moreover, the renown that their music would captivate. Its a shame that Syd would not, or could not, join them... blue skies from pain...

@@PMunkSIt was the studio version with even worse fidelity. The entire thing was synched. If what you're trying to say is "No disrespect to any Pink Floyd member": I agree with you 100% But to be clear: the audio was the studio version. I don't even know shy that's up to debate as it's obvious if you just use your "listening ears".
