Welcome to Amity Tracks. This is a channel where we discuss a wide range of music related topics. The focus will be on music from the 1960’s through the 1990’s, but not exclusively. When you see them old episodes of "Classic Albums" from VH1, I love ho they talk about Gilmore and Waters' heads actually coming together with a rare collaboration on the title track of "Wish You Were Here." Really a nicely surprising moment man!!

My top 5 Pink Floyd studio albums: 1) Wish You Were Here, 2) Dark Side of the Moon, 3) The Wall, 4) Meddle, 5) Piper at the Gates of Dawn. “Pulse” is my favorite live Floyd live album. Frankly, I’ve never understood why so many people seem to love “Animals” - it has never resonated with me. Meddle is easily their most underrated album - “Echoes” is stunning, groundbreaking, and a hint of what was to come two years later with DSOTM.

My top 10 that I absolutely love: 1. Atom Heart Mother 2. Meddle 3. Wish You Were Here 4. Obscured By Clouds 5. Dark Side of the Moon 6. The Division Bell 7. The Endless River 8. Animals 9. A Momentary Lapse of Reason 10. Ummagumma A few thoughts: 1. My first Pink Floyd album was Atom Heart Mother that I bought as a young teenager back in 1970. Subsequently I bought all their albums as they were released. 2. I remember the marketing for The Endless River before it was released. It clearly stated that it was outtakes from the Division Bell and was mostly ambient music with very little vocals. I knew what I was buying before it was released and was NOT disappointed when I got it on the day of its release. I love this album and play it frequently. 3. I usually agree with your opinions in your videos. But not this one, my friend. We all connect to music in different ways for different reasons. Most people’s first exposure to Pink Floyd was Dark Side of the Moon or The Wall. My introduction was Atom Heart Mother, therefore my perspective of their albums will be different.

Enjoyed the video and agree about Wish You Were Here having a slight edge over DSOTM. I would have put Piper and Obscured by Clouds higher and Animals (which has great music but suffers from overly heavy-handed lyrics imo) lower

I loved The Wall. I mean, I really LOVED it. But I never thought it was their best work. Piper is deservedly a classic. British psychedelia is def different. The French had the barricades; we in the USA had tin soldiers and Nixon coming. The Brits just wandered off into the wood to talk to trolls and faeries and hobbits. Saucerful of Secrets is about the only album you mention I don't know. Need to remedy that. Always loved Meddle, but my dog loved it even more. He would run up to the Advents on the floor, and then walk around behind them to find that dog!. For me Dark Side is their magnum opus, but my brother would agree with you. He always preferred Wish You Were Here

Their sleepy "pastoral psych" sound has always appealed to me most. Sacrilege, I know, but, though clearly brilliant, Dark Side and thereafter was never really my cup of tea. Better built, yes, but slicker. Meddle, Obscured and psychedelic bits that peppered the earlier albums are good enough for me. So your analysis of their later albums are particularly informative to me. Nice work, thanks !

Good list. For me, I’d rank the top 5 as 1 - DSotM 2- Animals 3- WYWH 4- Meddle 5- Piper I agree that The Wall would be perfect as a single LP. Some people think AHM is their best which intrigues me.

I think it is obvious that Syd suffered from schizophrenia. I have a number of Pink Floyd albums but no way all 15. Of the ones that I have UmmaGumma is the weakest. I would have Obscured By Clouds higher than you. I would have the first two higher also. Overall, I think you did a good job.

Thanks! As much as I thought I had this stuff set in my mind, even up to right before filming, I was shuffling the order a bit.
