Btw. Idk if you’ll get to it in a reaction. But the transition at the end from this song into the next song “the thin ice” is masterful. It’s the droning of a Stuka Dive bomber. A ww2 plane that was probably the same plane that killed Roger Waters father or Pink’s it then is cut out by a baby crying. Absolutely brilliant. As you can see the moment he was born or a nightmare in his later years

As someone else said, the transitions from one song to the next are important. I would suggest starting each track with the last 10 or 15 seconds of the previous track so you hear how they transition

Brilliant stuff right here, one of the greatest opening tracks on an album ever. You definitely need to give the whole album a listen, and check out the move, as it really completes the experience and gives you more of the story for sure. I've loved this album since I got it for my 12th birthday the year it came out, just frikking brilliant from start to finish. Great choice as always - peace and love from the north!

The album is about a character based on Roger Waters, who was born after his father died in WWII grew up and became a Rock star ever more isolated behind a wall.

In a nutshell Roger Water wrote the majority of these lyrics. The lyrics were about his life as a small boy after WW2. The songs reference his memories of school indoctrination in England, “ we’re just another brick in the wall” refers to being taught institutionalized curriculum and abusive disciplinary measures at that time. Virtually all the rest are his first hand, second hand early memories of post war England. Pay attention to the lyrics if you will

Saw them perform "The Wall" in its entirety Feb 1980 at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. They didn't really tour the album, they played very limited engagements of about 30 shows during 1980-1981 in four cities LA, NY, London, and Dortmund. Richard Wright (keyboards) was fired by Roger Waters during the making of the album, but remained on the production and performed at the shows as a salaried musician.

A really cool easter egg on this album is that the very first thing you hear @ 0:38 is Roger saying, “-we came in”. It’s so fast that you don’t notice it at first… and at the very end of the album, right before the end you hear Roger say, “isn’t this where-“. So if you loop the album, the transition from the end back to the beginning becomes Roger asking, “isn’t this we’re we came in?” Roger Waters was so ahead of his time that he was making looped edits 50 years before the current Tik-tok generation. He was playing with the idea on previous albums… “dark side of the moon” begins and ends with the heartbeat, “shine on you crazy diamond” and “animals” begin and end with the same song that has been divided, but this is a whole different level.

Ok guys I was at Roger Waters The Wall Concert in 2010. At the end of this song you hear a airplane diving and crashing! At the concert they had a real model plane (not a toy) fly down from the ceiling of the Tacoma Dome on a line and Crash and explode into the half built wall on stage! It was amazing! There is footage of that on KZfaq

Okay, okay, I'm a broken record...but you need to know this: The "wall" is how Roger described Pink Floyd founding member Syd Barrett's schizophrenia onset. In an interview he said Syd would get confused, go dark, and he'd put up a "wall" to avoid it all. Years later Roger got ticked at a front row fan and spat on him. He realized he was building a "wall" of his own, an avoidance that he was somewhat personally falling apart. My recommendation, FWIW, is check out Piper at the Gates of Dawn just to hear what the Crazy Diamond himself contributed. "Astronomy Domine" explains so much of what comes after, perhaps the first true psychedelic prog rock track outside Sgt. Peppers "Lucy."

Astronomy Domine will live in my memories for ever, was not included in Pulse video but was the opening song in the 94 tour, saw it twice. I remember in Montreal, right after Astronomy Domine ended my brother turned to me and said:" the concert could end now i already had my money's worth"

You are tackling a real big one this time, unreal story and great Pink Floyd soundtrack to bring it to life. After listening to the entire album you need to watch the movie of it, giving you the full Wall treatment. It is such a shame this album virtually ended the band and it was years before they recovered and went out without Roger, who had basically taken control of Pink Floyd to all other members detriment. They would have not been as great without Roger but could not continue with him. Some people are just difficult, tough for those in their orbit. In any event, One of the best concept albums ever, enjoy! 🎵🎸🎹🎶

Have you heard that they were talking about somebody buying their catalogue for upwards of $500 million but it’s not likely to happen until either Roger Waters or David Gilmour passes because of how bad they hate each other. I don’t think they’re hurting for money because like 10 years ago they turned down a tin city $350 million payday so we’ll see what happens.

"if you want to find out what's behind these cold eyes, you'll just have to claw your way through this disguise" sets the tone of a rock star telling his fans there is a reason he is the way he is, with this wall built up around himself. The rest of the album then proceeds to reveal things that happened in his life and what makes up the 'bricks in the wall'. Outstanding concept and musical execution. Keep in your mind this was an album first and then years later it was made into a movie. The movie is okay but the music and lyrics are so much better experienced listening to the album and letting your mind create the movie in your head.

The album tells a great story, but is more of a Roger waters album at the core than it is a purely Pink Floyd album. Nothing wrong with that since Gilmour and to a lesser extent Richard Wright had their say in the musical part which is why we ended-up with a genuine Pink Floyd album after all. Not even close to the three previous three (Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here and Animals) cuz those were masterpieces each and every single one of them. The only thing "masterfull" about "The Wall" (in my humble opinion) is the extra effects that glue the whole together. For the rest, méh.

While this is definitely a classic album, it's also a huge drop-off in quality from the albums that preceded it. There is only one album after this one worthy of a full listen and that's The Division Bell (1994). The same goes before DSOTM. Meddle is a huge drop in quality aside from One Of These Days and Echoes. And nothing before that is worth a whole lot. It's just album after album of failed experiments, really. There are so many other bands with more worthwhile albums to hear, starting with Black Sabbath. Six albums of pure gold in a row, easily, starting with their debut.

On the other hand, the movie is amazing. It actually succeeds in telling a cohesive story mostly, and actually goes in-depth into the fate of Pink/Roger's father, which is instrumental to the story, and is indeed the first brick in his wall. I never understood why they chose to gloss right over that part of the story on the album. Seems disrespectful to Roger's father's sacrfice, really. Check out the track 'When The Tiger's Broke Free', which was omitted from the album, to get at least some of the story. It's also a powerful scene in the movie, and the clip can be found on youtube.

Dissing on Floyd is silly but agree, for a full album reaction, Meddle through the Wall and the Division Bell are the ones to go for, with select tracks from the rest of their Catalog. They will be blown away if they do full album reactions to Black Sabbath, first 6 albums for sure plus Heaven and Hell & Mob Rules from the Dio era. Its all good music, glad other folks are finding out.

That's just not true, friend. "Drop-off in quality" makes little sense in the context of PF's music, and it's a necessary continuum to fully understand, appreciate, and value their body of work. For example, without "Interstellar Overdrive" and "Astronomy Domine" and "Careful With That Axe, Eugene" and "Atom Heart Mother" there'd never be an "Echoes." Without Syd's Piper THERE WOULDN'T BE a dark side of anything, wouldn't be a machine to greedily welcome them, wouldn't be a wall. I'm entranced by "Eugene" and "Set The Controls" because those were, more than anything, the two go-to concert freak-out centerpieces that saved their a$$es! Thankfully, the Airplay Beats channel isn't superficial and, as the hosts are musicians themselves, wants to partake of the come-up story and the full context. EDIT: These guys did Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, btw. You would probably consider that a "drop-off" from Stevie and Lindsey, but they came correct and hit both Green's and Santana's "Black Magic Woman." THAT'S how you not only react to music but also study it!
