Mike, I have an Italian EMI/Harvest issue that I assume is a first pressing. It was made from US supplied TML stampers on all four sides. The vinyl is pretty quiet too. Snagged it for $18 about 10 years ago. One of the best bargains I've stumbled upon. It's fantastic.

Yep, that U.S. pressing is the best one. Though I don't have the promo, the stampers are from the first pressing. I also got the U.K. first press, and while I dig the sound, the American cut has more punch. The Japanese cut is definitely a disappointment, and is now more of a collectible for me. Nice review man!

Years ago, I bought what I thought was a good used copy of this album. I never played it, and in the days before the internet, I had no idea what it was. I was shocked to find out that it's the US first pressing (after the promo version). I haven't really cleaned the 2016 Grundman pressing with the fancy fluid (forget what it's called), and Comfortably Numb seems to have a slight sibilance (?) on at the end of "you may feel a little ssssick". The first pressing does not have this.

Listened to it for the first time and noticed that one album is labeled side 3 & 4 and the other (which I expected to be side 1 & 2) is actually labeled and pressed as sides 2 & 3. I recently purchased what I THOUGHT was a Wall PROMO (it has the timing strip and gold Demonstration stamp on the back) but unfortunately it does not have the DEMO print on the labels themselves. Hi, I wish I watched this before I purchased the latest 2016 pressing which I purchased only because my original uk 1979 pressing was a bit crackly and tatty. As soon as I played the new version i noticed that the dynamic range just wasn't there! Where was the big dramatic intro? Just shows that by saying 'Remastered' on the front sticker doesn't mean alot really as there is definitely a reduction in quality from the original. Why can't Floyd follow the lead of Dire Straits whose reissues are just fantastic and also from the same era. Keep up the good work.

@addman276 жыл бұрын
Interesting video and in this case I agree with the reviewer, but differ on some of his other pics. Specifically, recommending Miles Davis' Kind of Blue on a two disc MOFI 45 rpm version is not necessarily the 'definitive version' of the album in my opinion. Some of the recent MOFI releases have been muddy sounding and inferior to the original pressings. (Little Feat Dixie Chicken comes to mind as sounding muddy, while Hall and Oates "Rock 'n Soul" sounded pretty good). Point is the two disc 45 rpm sets for $50 (or so) dollars are a colossal over priced waste of money in my opinion. I hand it to these companies for figuring out a way to charge $50 for a fifty year old album that went for $6.98 not too long ago; and perhaps if you possess over $100k in equipment (like the reviewer) you might hear some 'marginal' improvements at best, but for an average system all a 45 rpm record is going to do, is have you running up to flip the record over twice as often. Stick with the original 33 1/3 format. In most cases a clean original copy of a classic album will sound the best (my favorite sounding copy of Dark Side of the Moon is the domestic copy I bought in the early '90's on the purple Capitol label). Think about it though. An original pressing was too was mastered from the original tapes and while it may not be 180 gram, the weight of a record has no bearing on the overall sound quality. In addition, the master tapes were much newer at the time not having sat 40 to 50 years degrading in a vault and, you hear the album the way the original artist intended it to be heard. If you were buying a classic reproduction of say the Mona Lisa, would you want it the way Da Vinci originally painted it, or have it 'digitally enhanced' and altered. Point is these reviews are very subjective and should be taken with a grain of salt. Best to read several reviews and perhaps buy a couple of different issues of an album to decide for yourself. That's part of the fun of this hobby. As a long time collector I too concur in avoiding digital vinyl. Happy listening!
@leon90216 жыл бұрын
John Kinder The MOFI cut isnt digital in any way though. And its not like a first press is cheap either. Its true that you might not hear a difference with a budget setup, but you wont if you cant listen properly either.
