This is one of the best songs from the 60s. Nothing compares to the original Jefferson Airplan (White Rabbit) But my opinion is that this one is a good cover.
Here is what Grace Slick had to say about Pink's vocals, ""It's good. Pink has the vocal power, which is all I care about,"
Slick told the Wall Street Journal. "Over the years, I've heard a lot of versions of the song where singers don't have the attitude or vocal force you need on it. Pink knows how to sing."
Pink has to feel pretty good about getting the thumbs up from one of Rock's original divas.

A Jo. I agree. Pink is one of the few modern artist that I can listen to. This rendition is quite close to the magical Grace Slick's performance. The cover is superb in fact. It carries the spirit and tone of the original and something more. It's that intangible thing that is perhaps informed by Pink's own underlying messages as an artist. You believe her. If she were the right age, she would have been there with us in Woodstock. The sensibility is there. Amazing that this song is as valid now as then. Agree with the comment in this post regarding the instrumentality vs the voice, but to a lesser degree. There was only one point where there was a clash, in my opinion. But if that instrumentality could just be lowered slightly and Pink's voice allowed her full projection, that's easily cured. It was just a second or so and did very little to impact my enjoyment of her rendition. In my view a marvelous homage. In thinking of this further, back in those days, there was not the production quality that we have today. You heard the singer's naked voice. I think Pink could stand up to this as well. I'm happy she covered this song. Very!!

@@normansmithers4465 Hi! while I appreciate Lady Gaga's voice and her sensibility, I am not a fan of her style. Miley Cyrus? I don't know her music at all. I don't follow music anymore as I used to when I was younger. So no offense to these newer artists. I listen to Adele, Pink, Madonna and Eminem selectively. Otherwise, i still listen to R&B, classic rock and cool jazz. The newer artists I discovered accidentally. There are only so many hours in a day, my friend, and I use them to calm myself against the vagaries of our modern world which I find corrupted and in a state of entropy. In addition, I have a visual addiction, so I watch certain types of movies as well. So little time, you see? God Bless.

The power of the original version is the sparseness of the instrumentation. Pink definitely did the song justice, but it would have been more powerful without all of the instruments. It is a singer's song.

Totally agree. I just watched Jefferson Airplane's live Smothers Brothers show video version. The instrumentals were stark, supporting but not overwhelming Grace. In the original Woodstock recording there seemed to be more instrumentals, much closer to Pink's version.

The issue with most versions is that the artists fail to realize that the song starts low, builds in intensity, and finishes with a crescendo. Most versions are all over the map with intensity as the singer tries to put their own stamp on this classic song. Pink nails everything about this song. She also does a magnificent version of Me and Bobby McGee. She has spectacular vocal ability but also realizes that the song isn't always about the singer showing off, sometimes it's about what the writer wanted to say with the words and the feeling of the song.

Actually, I hear a major problem in this cover - having just revisited the original: The band is too powerful. One thing is that Pink isn't quite able to match the power of Grace. That could be worked out. But the band, in this high-power arrangement, actually overpowers rather than supports the vocals. In the original, the instrumentals support the vocals, which makes for a very coherent whole. My respect for Jefferson Airplane just went up another notch...

Yeah that about covers it, bit of damn shame although would have been a bit too much if they had achieved what this birds vocals did.

Maybe Pink's lyrics are a bit low in the mix but I find she's every bit as powerful as Grace, and that is saying A LOT. Band put their own twist on it, which is excellent but still true to the original.

IMHO, When you cover a song, you tend to make it your own, not an exact copy of the original. This is why many covers are better than the originals.

Pink can sing anything she wants that's what happens when you never mime. You have to be good, train continuously standing up, sideways, or upside down (lol). She has the lungs, she has the power and awesome pitch control. Heard her sing a great rendition, Mercedes Benz By Janis, and I think she was still very young at that time.

Wow I have always, always had serious chills from the Grace Slick original - what a voice! - but Pink just does something incredible here as well.. I love the intermittent, crazed, Beatle-esque instrumental sequences that are so in keeping with the incredibly intense psychedelic subject matter...

(Z): Giorgos, Original version is by "White Rabbit" was written and performed by Grace Slick while she was still with the Great Society. Slick quit them and joined Jefferson Airplane to replace their departing female singer, Signe Toly Anderson. Also, Written by The Great Society guitarist Darby Slick[2] after realizing his girlfriend had left him, and first performed by that band, which included his then-sister-in-law Grace Slick on vocals- "Somebody to love" brother - Jerry Slick & Jerry`s wife, Grace. P.s. Jerry died earlier this year. Both Paul Kantner & Signe Toly Anderson- died Jan. 28, 2016 separate health issues. Both were born -1941 {March 17; Sept. 15th}
