My mom passed away in 2018 and we would watch supernatural every week. This song hits home to me. Brings me to tears everytime I hear it. Supernatural, Jensen Ackles and simple man will forever hold a place in my heart.

Jensen is like the most perfect man ever. He's an actor, he can sing, he's funny, he's nice, he's relatable, he treats his wife wonderfully (I hope), and he's a great father

My mom left me with this song. Simple Man, from Lynyrd Skynyrd. A few days before her passing, I found this cover by Jensen Ackles. Didn't know Dean Winchester could've done such a beautiful and strong cover of this wonderful song. This song is so powerful. It's a prayer from mother to son. She used to sing this frequently, especially in those weekends when we had the most peaceful days. Just both of us, enjoying the weekend, cuddling, or cooking together, cleaning the house or even when both of us opened up the computer or the cellphone to spend time watching anything on KZfaq. Or playing games, in my case. She had brain cancer. Spent a whole week hospitalized, in coma, before her body gave up. Worst part is, when she was in a coma, no one could be at her side. It was a public hospital. After all, we're poor. I try not to think that she died alone, in a hospital bed surrounded by people she didn't know. Then, in a saturday, August 13th 2022, 10pm, my cousin came to my house informing the hospital called to inform of her passing. At the same time this cover by Jensen played in my head. I've only held back my tears because my cousin was already crying. After she left, it was my time to crumble. It was slow, it was like my world came down slowly. Sometimes I miss her so much that I feel my heart being smashed and cut and stabed...I'm living with my family but it's not the same thing. It's a whole diferent environment and not the best for someone who lost the most important person of his life. I lost part of my soul. When it gets so bad, when I miss her so much and I feel overwhelmed with my family or the responsibilities of life, I hear this. It's like I'm praying and listening to a prayer. I listen to this to remind me of her, what she wished for me. To have strenght, to never give up, to always look up to God, to her, and to remind that things will get better and someday I will have the best life. A life with a job, a salary, a wife, kids. A simple life. As a simple man. And when I have my kids, I'm gonna sing this song to them. I'm gonna pass the prayer my mom passed to me.

A small story i have with this song: On September 5th 2020, it was just me and my brother Scott at home. I was working on math homework and he was cooking himself something to eat while also making me listen to his favorite songs, a lot of which were just "omg turn this garbage off". He had gotten into Supernatural, courtesy of me, and really liked Dean, and Scott always reminded me of Dean because they had some stuff in common. So I told him to play this song because Jensen sang it and he had never heard him singing. After the song was over, he said that it was a good song and was impressed by Jensen's singing. I was just amazed at his reaction. Then came the next night, when I was given the news that while my brother was out riding four wheelers with his friends, he had flipped over and wrecked. I spent the whole week catching back up so when he got out of the hospital, we could watch Season 4 together (he had just finished Season 3 and I was catching back up). All I wanted was to just see him again. September 14th 2020 was the day I had to say goodbye to him after a week and 2 days in the hospital. The entire ride back all I did was listen to Jensen, switching between this song and Sounds of Someday, just hoping that wherever Scott was, he could listen with me. When we were making plan for the funeral, my parents were wondering if they should play Simple Man. I immediately told my parents that we should, but it has to be this version. It meant more than just Scott living the simple life the best he did, it was to remind me of how amazing that last day we spent together was. To my surprise, when the song came on, I cried both tears of sadness and tears of joy, knowing that in just the 20 years my brother lived, he became the simple man I knew he would be. I still cannot hear this song while breaking down. I just hope that Scott is listening with me. I still think back to that last night we had, and am more grateful he was in my life the way he was. As Castiel once said, "The point is that they were even here at all and you got to know them. When they're gone, it will hurt, but that hurt will remind you of how much you loved them." This song was a big part of my childhood, and it’s some of what shaped me into the man I wanted to be. It’s a simple song with a powerful message I think, we live in a world where people pretty much live fast die young, and try to be so complicated to outdo someone else or live up to an unreasonable standard. “ Take your time, don’t live too fast, troubles will come, and they will pass.” Is one of the lines that has always stuck with me throughout my life, to not let the winds blow you away when they come, but stand in the storm and know it won’t outlast you
