It should lay a bit flat. Have you tried to flip the pages the other way in the back? If the wrong one is flipped on top it will become a tiny bit bulky

I made something similar a few months ago for a birthday shower, guests wrote messages to the baby, it will be given to them when they’re older, the put photos in too & memories of the parents with the guests. So one put a pic of her and the mummy in school as children, they wrote a message talking about how they met as children etc Then from that another was ordered for a bridal shower & graduation…then the graduation *one* got to 9 with added ones for friends. They are going to have a small gathering of friends about a week before the graduation party. Nothing fancy, an afternoon & evening of enjoying each other’s company, talking about memories, having facials, hot tub…I made them all from different paper to suit each young lady 😁🌸 It could be used as a milestone birthday gift, a just because gift, could put different gift cards in it, maybe a come collect your favourite cake ‘card’ or come swimming with me, let’s go for a manicure….
