But there's at least one nod to the Disney movie, Gemini's name coming from Disney's Jiminy Cricket. In the novel it is Talking Cricket. Dunno if there are others. Kinda a mix of multiple things anyway, with the most prominent being Collodi's novel.

Gemini is based on Jiminy from the Disney cartoon and the live action by Disney BUT is dead like the one from the book bc Pinocchio kills it by flinging a hammer at it.

It takes inspiration from both. The name Gemini is taken from Jiminy Cricket in the Disney adaptation. In the book it’s just “the Talking Cricket”. The Red Apple and the Wishstone (If you wish upon a star…) are both from the Disney adaptation as well. I could probably think of more examples if I tried, but I just wanted to illustrate that Lies of P draws from both

@@4Syorha again, people adding their interpretations is what really takes a you far from the original story, Disney's take is a more kid friendly version as opposed to the original one, so many creepy aspects of the story were cut off.

I knew the bit about the nameless puppet but the Tin Man is news to me. Is this mentioned anywhere? Or alluded to? Or is this a hypothesis based off Dorothy's inclusion?

@@joshcarr9858 the nameless puppet is who geppetto truly called his son(cuz its literally carlos corpse) and made him before you. In the original pinocchio was his first puppet he called his son. You have a heart that contains human souls and had human capabilities from the start and the journey of the game mirrors tin mans where he discovers he "had a heart" the whole time because both experience interaction with other sentient beings and form their first bonds like a growing child although you more so in lies of p than Wizard Of Oz.In other words just like the title not actually standing for pinocchio and the journey to the end where geppetto reveals his lies the game is all about deception and every little thing is an allusion to a greater truth just like the original pinocchio and so many other original fables and folktales before the wizard of oz movie which basically began the era of simplistic and often puritin adaptations of them. Also like i sorta mentioned before alot of people agree the Paracelsus guy(the one that reveals Dorothy) is actually the mad hatter from Alice in Wonderland and Lies of P actually stands for Lies Of Paracelsus.

@@xXSAWGUNXx okay so it's speculation then, an interesting idea then. As I said, I was aware the NP was the actual Pinocchio of the story. Just thought I'd missed some confirmation somewhere of the Tin Man thing which as far as I can tell is just a headcanon so far

@@xXSAWGUNXx I’d argue that the Nameless Puppet is not Pinocchio. Both the novel and the movie are about a sentient wooden marionette who become a real boy. NP was originally a real boy, Carlo, who died and was turned into a mindless puppet. P, on the other hand, was originally a puppet who through the course of the game became human-something which is unique to P. You definitely play as Pinocchio in the game, regardless of the fact that the Nameless Puppet came first. I don’t think omitting the full name ‘Pinocchio’ from the title means much. As for the supposed true title ‘Lies of Paracelsus’: Paracelsus was a minor character with minor lies that really don’t affect the story. While he and the Trinity will likely play a larger role that tie together this and future games in the series, Lies of P is not about him and he is only used to tease the sequel. Lies of P is simply not about Paracelsus. I also don’t think that Pinocchio will be the Tin Man in the sequel. P has already found his ‘heart’-his humanity, and is now immortal as Paracelsus reveals. I do agree that the Tin Man will likely be a puppet from Krat, but I believe it will be a different puppet than P on his own journey with Dorothy, the Cowardly Lion, and the Scarecrow.

Polendina, Romeo, Carlos' "mother puppet", the wife puppet if you rediscover her corpse, the cop puppet as well as other puppets i have not mentioned go through the same thing as the boy(player character) they just don't keep their lives as he does and although you obtain physical changes through the course of the game the fact you can lie in the first place shows that his mind is sentient. He was basically just born and is mentally a baby except he has ergo that contains memory/potentially machine coding present to allow him to conveniently follow orders and understand the language that is played. If you get the "bad/least true" ending you give up your tin man status in exchange for reflecting the M.O of the original pinocchio where you obey authority and let someone else think for you or in other words BECOME PINOCCHIO because you gave him your heart and since he does whatever geppetto says you basically gave geppetto a living puppet that is both partially puppet physically as well as metaphorically. I truly believe the choice of either reflecting tin man or becoming pinocchio is a dichotomy of choice that is ment to be a critique on the two similar but also vastly differing stories where one teaches fall in line and the other to discover yourself.
