ang saya balikan ng late 90s to 2000s. ung ang bagong music na aabangan mo eh kung anong bagong release na casette tape sa music store tapos maghihiraman kayo ng kaklase mo na hindi marunong magsoli. chicosci, houndz, queso, slapshock ang isa sa reason bakit ako natuto tumugtog kasama ng mga classmates ko nung high school. I admit nag stop ako makinig ng chicosci after method of breathing pero masaya ako na tinuloy nila ang pag evolve ng music nila. nagkataon lang na nakilala ko ung ibang bands na ka genre nila like taking back sunday, the used at iba pa..thanks to this post babalikan ko ulit ang mga namiss kong albums nila.

I was so confused noong nalaman ko mula sa tropa na ung dati nilang mahal na CHICOSCIENCE eh hate na nila as CHICOSCI. tapos noong way back in college, nakakanood nako ng mga gigs nila. Most notably noong nag-bday celebrate ako sa isang big event featuring Chicosci & other bands. at that time, na-buking ko na may something between my gf (ex now) & my college buddy, buti nakita ako noong isa sa mga tropa kong Band crew ng isang sikat na banda. naisama ako sa backstage kasama ng maraming banda at chicosci. napa-inom kami dahil maraming stocks sa backstage tapos birthday din ni Calde at para akong kuya na nagsusumbong sa kanila. pinainom nila ako. so imbes na mag-mukmok eh nalasing kami sa sobrang saya. These are bunch of wacky guys specially si Miggy (lalo na pag lasing). haha! Good times!

Personally, I loved their album Icarus (Method of Breathing may be second fave) and I think it’s their best craft. Amazed ako paano na labas and produce nila Raymond and Buddy sa kanila and sound nila sa Icarus so nabilib ako. That album sounds post-hardcore-ish or mathcore-ish and it’s a very unique, heavy and original kasi wala ka talaga maririnig na ganun style at all especially sa opm metal/hardcore scene. I just hope they maintained that sound kasi it just set them completely apart and evolved from the mainstream genre that time which is nu-metal, their first genre (never liked their first one). Yung time na hindi ko na sila na tripan nun is nung binago nila sound nila sa Vampire social club, naging mainstream emo rock band sila which is hindi ko masyado trip. Anyways, nakita naman potential nila and I think ung mga bagong singles nila are better naman from the “vampire” era and I hope unti-unti bumalik ung creative exploration nila nung sa Icarus/MoB era. Despite their changing styles, this band is still a one in a million band in the OPM alternative scene.

Sobrang nostalgic neto ah. Naalala ko non wayback 2005 usong uso talaga mga Emo/Alternative rock. Para sakin yun yung glory days especially ng Alternative rock. Dati pag sinabe mong idol mo Chicosci sasabihan kang bakla hahahahaha. Pero respect sa Chicosci, laki ng naiambag nila sa OPM, not the biggest fan pero masaya ako kung ano narating nila ngayon.

I've been following this band since the late 90's pinapanood pa namin sila ng mga college friends ko sa Mayrics during their 'Giant Robot' era. Yung 'Method' album for someone like me at that time na nakikinig rin ng Glassjaw, Boy Sets Fire and other Victory Records hardcore bands, ay obviously dun nila kinuha ang tunog ng 'Method' album. Kung di ka talaga familiar sa mga binaggit kong banda iisipin mo talaga na napaka original ng sound nila sa album na yun. Sadly, marami ring tulad ko na nakikinig ng mga bandang di sikat sa pinas pero sikat abroad kaya di makakalusot yung panggagaya ng tunog ng Chicosci. Thanks to Nizzle Dazzle, sa Recto, yun ang music source namin noong late 90's to early 00's kaya updated kami kung anong usong music sa US lol. Yung 'Icarus' naman isa pang obvious na pinagkopyahan nila ng tunog ay yung bandang AFI, mapapansin mo yun kung nakikinig ka na ng AFI during the time na lumabas yung 'Icarus'.

Never loved or hated ChicoSci, isang beses ko lang sila pinakinggan and that was when they featured Jamir of Slapshock, only time I game them a listen.

Tinapos ko tong video na to. Bakit? HAHAHA 😂 Chicosci had the same energy on stage since the very first time I saw them from Summer Shebang upto now. They can still make the crowd go wild and make moshpits. And Miggy truly have a good and sexy voice kahit nagsisigaw sya. Mong Alcaraz is cool too. Yung dalawang yun ang haligi ng Chicosci. Hanggat magkasama yan kahit anong bash nyo, wala. They will prove you na we are Chicosci that you can't let us down. So ayun lang. Di naman ako masyadong fan sakto lang na love ko sila. Nag start talaga yung mga nabwiset yung iba sa Chico nung nilabas nila yung self titled album. Compared to first 3 albums, biglang naging melodic at sumabay talaga sa mainstream during that time but you can't blame an artist kung gusto nilang lumihis at gumawa ng bago. Yung last album nga nila na This Is Not A Chicosci Record was also a solid one. Tracks like Crocodile Scars, Secret Weapon, Alexandra etc. Will always be a fan of this band.

I've been a fan of "Sink or Swim" since then I recognized their change of style in music hence as a fan and as a listener I've been also evolving in taste of music from Blink, Green Day, Korn, Incubus, Linkin Park to Paramore and emo screamo to Angels and Airwaves and so on as long as I like to hear. Chicosci is also something like that it's like you get out of your comfort zone. Maybe the only thing that we hate is the thing that they imitate some artist "(I think)" or we are not ready when they become mainstream.

Pero as I grow older, dun ko lang na-realize na as an artist you want to explore and try different things. Tas ayun, whenever na may banda akong paborito tas di ko trip bagong tunog nila, I just telling myself na good for them that they're trying to broadened they musical expertise. I didn't care back then...basta rock, rock yon...basta metal, metal yon...interchangeable saken ung rock genre noong bata pako..my point being is I didn't hate chicosci noon or Pogi rock in general...

Hanggang ngayon nasakin pa din yung cassete tape ko ng 1st at 2nd album ng chicosci and in my opinion, yung unang dalawang album na yun ang oinaka the best album nila sa lahat. Mas nagustuhan ko nga lalo ang chichosci sa 2nd album dahil sa bigat ng mga riff at screams sa mga kanta na nandun. Overall, ang mga hater lang naman ng chicosci eh yung mga die hard metal fans kuno pero mga posers lang naman. 😂
