Showcase # 12: PintheQ Productions had this amazing opportunity to chat with some war years firefighters from 85 Engine with the FDNY. The era in which these fireman fought fire was know as the War Years, this was a time when the bronx was burning. The South Bronx had massive fires and the work was non-stop, these Firemen were Iron Men.

makes me feel like i'm sitting at the kitchen table when a old timer stops by to see the guys. always the best stories. Any of you young guys on the job, any time a retired guy stops by ask him to tell some stories. you'll never be let down.

I had the opportunity to visit Engine 82 and Ladder 31 back in 1990 with retired FDNY Fire Commissioner "Gus" Beekman. If anyone is interested in learning more about that era I would suggest they read "Report From Engine 82" by Dennis Smith. All the companies mentioned in the podcast are part of the novel (non-fiction).

Very respectful interview, extremely interesting, quite moving hearing these firefighters telling ins and outs of firefighting, and the family that exists. Yes, new firefighters really need to hear this. This video is a great training tool. Shows humanity . Many thanks. RESPECT HONOR DIGNITY LIFE

I remember the school fire they were referring to. It was during the Yankees/Dodgers WS in 1977. Although, Howard Cosell never said " The Bronx is burning". That comes from one part of Report From Engine Co 82

1:06:00 Willy Doyle from Engine 82 passed away in the firehouse. I lived next door to the Doyles’. I was just a kid but I’ll never forget that day. He gave me my first car, VW Bug. In fact, the whole neighborhood was Bronx/Harlem firefighters. Greatest group of guys you could ever have around growing up.

Breathtaking images of firefighters at work during the "War Years" by Pulitzer Prize winning photojournalist Paul Thayer who working from a darkroom in the basement of Rescue Company 1 would make prints and give them free of charge to the firefighters who were his subjects. These images considered by many to be among the best in the history of fire photography can be viewed by going to fdnyheroes.com

@@PintheQPodcast No brother...thank you. These men provide an insight into such an important piece of fire service and American history. Their stories need to be told. If you are interested, I have direct access to a large group of War Years FF's who would really appreciate the opportunity to sit around the kitchen table with you and let the smoke bank down for a while.

What is the name of this Fire Horse? I know he stated it in the beginning, but if you could add it to the title, it may be easier to find for future use.
