Mother Natalia talks about needing help. She also speaks about how we can be wounded by not getting help from people close to us. Then she speaks on our childlike need for the Father.

As usual, Mthr. Natalia's words are both wise and edifying. Thank you Mthr. Natalia for your sage insight. We need to exonerate the term "neediness" , which is used as a word of disparagement in our culture. Our culture lauds the rugged individual, who is self-reliant, as the apotheosis of humanity. This is a harmful myth propagated by those who capitalize off a society that is atomized - where people are islands unto themselves for fear that reaching out to someone will demonstrate weakness. We should behave like the child in Mthr Natalia's example. We should have the humility to ask for help; to show our vulnerability. After all, it is by showing such humility and asking for help that allows that child to grow and develop, and that principle does not go away as an adult.
@kevinkelly2162
@kevinkelly2162 4 ай бұрын
Go look up infantilisation. You adress someone you have never met as 'mother' and say we should behave like some fictional child this evil woman made up for her disgusting story.
@alphacause
@alphacause 4 ай бұрын
@@kevinkelly2162 The term "Mother", with reference to a Catholic woman living a consecrated life, refers is a title denoting reverence, when dealing with a nun who has achieved a senior rank. She is not literally a mother. With regard to emulating a child, it is not about infantilization. Its about having the humility of a child to ask for help when you are in need. You are reading something negative into a very positive and empowering message, and that reflects more about you and your bitterness.
@kevinkelly2162
@kevinkelly2162 4 ай бұрын
@@alphacause No, you have been treated like a child since you were a child so you cannot see how powerless you really are. One example: You know what these people do to chldren. You know this is wrong. Yet you cannot see them for what they are. I bet that as you read this you are making excuses for them in your head.
@alphacause
@alphacause 4 ай бұрын
@@kevinkelly2162 At the heart of the Christian message is exactly what Mthr Natalia is speaking of, and despite what you consider to be an enfeebling idea, Christianity has been one of the, if not the most transformative movements in history. How is that infantilization? I am a productive tax paying citizen, twice university graduate, who supports my family. How have I been rendered a child, but I am still able to fulfill adult responsibilities? Why does vulnerability scare you so much? With reference to the line "you know what these people do to children", I am assuming you are speaking of the child sex abuse scandal of the Catholic Church. Yes, those people are detestable, and they should be held to account. They should be prosecuted for their crimes. Why are you blaming all Catholics, and specifically Mthr Natalia for those crimes? You are generalizing. For every one of those clerics who used their position to abuse children, there are thousands more who are servants of God and who serve mankind. To not view an individual, institution or group in its totality, and only highlight their crimes, illustrates that you are not arguing in good faith. I am sure you are part of a group, country, or ethnicity who has committed crimes. Should I only assess these groups by their worst actions? Should I judge the entire group for the crimes of a few within that group? More to the point, should I implicate you, because you happen to be part of one of these groups with the crimes of these groups?

Could our needing others be a gateway for God? We are to see our brothers and sisters as equal to ourselves and to serve them. This is a grace from God. This is our method of serving our Lord. Would it not be true in reverse too? God uses others to serve us as we serve them.

I hope this is not going to end in tears. The decision of mother superiors of allowing their very young and green in the spiritual battle nuns access to public platforms, like sr Cristina Cuccia or sr Luc Gabrielle have not been good. Hope history doesn't repeat the same for this young and gentle nun.

People tend to be "of two minds" here, at the same time. If you want to see the spotlight shine on hypocrisy, bring up the issue of neediness. In fact, on second thought, don't bring it up. Nevermind. 😂❤

I often hear people don’t like the phrase “God won’t give you anything more than you can handle.” I understand why they don’t but I like to switch up the phrase a bit to “God won’t give you more than y’all can handle.“ I think this shows the importance of community if somebody just can’t handle something bad. God gave us each other, and we need to reach out for help sometimes, and that’s perfectly OK.

Agreed. Another one, "God helps those who help themselves", But the sneakiest one is, "There but for the grace of God go I". That last one sums up Protestantism pretty succinctly. ❤

@@quietwyatt4045 "There but for the grace of God go I" doesn't bother me, as long as it leads to an expression of empathy. It can't end with judgment. Otherwise, it becomes an empty sentiment. I think the late folk singer, Phil Ochs, summed that up best with his song, "There but for Fortune." Catholics see those in need and are called to respond to that recognition of God's grace in their own lives with charitable works to help others. Far too many Protestants (some even masquerading as Catholics) are happy to just praise the Lord that they're not as dirty as the rest, the "other." Either way, the recognition of God's grace is a good thing. The latter, though, is woefully incomplete and thus a distortion of Christ's mission.

“I need a Jesus with skin,” to show me I’m protected, to show me I don’t need to be afraid.” That’s today’s Gospel, Jn 20 19-21. There’s not just one reading of todays Gospel, nor of Thomas in it, but Jesus showing up in the flesh to assuage Thomas’ fear is a pretty big one.

Meh- far better to live somewhat as a hermit when the people that should be real friends are only looking to get what they can from you- whether materially, spiritually, or some personality disordered enmeshment, with an end goal of emotional vampirism.

Not if you intend to let others permanently bear your crosses till they get so cross they lose their faith. God intended responsibilities to be shared - both the responsibility of power and the responsibility of work - creation. God does NOT love narcissists or their enablers and empowerers, who are responsible for creating entitled sociopaths, psychopaths, and megalomaniacs in their pop politically correct virtue signaling image of perfection.
@CharlieO_
@CharlieO_ 4 ай бұрын
Nope. God loves everybody. But I can definitely see how you might come to that conclusion. Narcissists and their network of well meaning thralls are something to avoid - especislly if they've cost you already. Its like they have hacked need, and reversed our Lord's intent for it, which is just the worst for anyone who has HAD to learn to defend from, or avoid narcissists. But they are children of God and He CAN bring them back. It may be important to remember that, for the most part, they have to want it bad enough to take on as much of the work as they can by themselves and with the direct aid of Christ and His angels and Saints. ... In the mean time, its ok to just leave them as far out of your life as can be.
