Actually this cartridge sounds very good because of the stylus. The Shibata stylus makes the difference, if you had an Ortofon Bronze cartridge and you insert an Ortofon 2M Black stylus i.e. the Shibata stylus, you would not tell the difference between the Bronze and Black cartridge, since the Shibata is responsible of such a detailed sound.
@svenschwingel86322 жыл бұрын
Shibata (2M Black) and FineLine (2M Bronze) have different sound signatures. Personally, I prefer the Bronze which sounds more hands-on and direct than the Black to me. I also have the PLX-1000 and the 2M Bronze suits it just fine. Shibata usually gives you a very relaxed listening experience which can be great on lots of recordings when things get rough 😬 There is also a new Black, the LVB250. It has a lighter Boron cantilever and is believed to be more dynamic, kinda like the Bronze while maintaining the Shibata sound signature. But at that price, you might just as well buy an MC cartridge anyway.
@felixfranzen7318 Жыл бұрын
The 2M black and the Bronze have the exact same generator as far as I understand, so a black stylus in a Bronze cart would be a Black. No more no less. I suspect that the generator is the same for all the 2M range (except for the mono one) actually. The tolerances are probably tighter for the Bronze and Black so they can publish better specs, but I not convinced this makes a real world difference. All the old OM generators were the same, from OM5 up to OM40.

You have to have a heavy arm for a Denon 103 of any type, very stiff suspension. Jelco 750 comes to mind. Denon boogies but lacks detail. This Ortofon 2m Black sounds nasty good.

Just wondering, have you ever checked the overhang on that Pioneer?, that Ortofon seems really far forward in the head-shell!
@christerpedersen78183 жыл бұрын
The tonearm is 2mm shorter for some kind of reason. It looks the same on mine and I have the same shell but a Dynavector cart.
@svenschwingel86322 жыл бұрын
@@christerpedersen7818 Actually, it's a printing error with the 54 mm overhang. The PLX-1000 has the exact Technics geometry with an effective arm length of 230 mm and 15 mm overhang. So stylii need to be adjusted accordingly. You can therefore also use any Concorde stylus with no hassle.

That's because Pioneer got it wrong. The stylus tip overhang isn't 54, but 52 like with all arms that have 230 mm effective length and 15 mm overhang. Just like the Technics, the Reloops and all the other Hanpin OEMs.

It's not the platter, it's the machining of the strobe markings. My PLX does the very same thing.
@Digiphex2 жыл бұрын
@@svenschwingel8632 The markings can be off as well. But I have set up an immoble arm to the desktop, set it within .1 mm of the platter and it scrapes in places on these Hanpins. It is just something to note relative to an old Technics precision cast in Japan.
@svenschwingel86322 жыл бұрын
@@Digiphex I got lucky with mine, then. I heard about the wobbly platters so I took a precision gauge used to measure side shot in brake rotors to my platter directly after unboxing and it turned out to be as even as can be. Also, the tonearm gimbal didn't show any play like other PLX buyers reported. But there's the slightly uneven markings which doesn't really bother me. And the tonearm lift is kinda weak and lets the stylus drop too fast. No big deal in the middle of a record, but it can be tricky on the lead-in if the stylus decides to take a sidestep in the wrong direction. So I am a tad more careful with the lift. As far as build quality goes: the old "made in Japan" quality at affordable price tags is gone for good. If you want a really well-built Technics turntable, I'd even stay away from the Mk7 and go for the 1200G ... but at 4000 bucks, it's going to cost ya. Dearly. And I can't see any pro DJ using two of these in a club.

Let's get real here. This is a high priced, perhaps over-priced, DJ turntable sold under the Pioneer name, probably out of the same Chinese factory which spits out the AT 60 and 120 models, but with higher spec hardware. It mounts an Ortofon 2M cartridge which is way more cartridge than this table was designed to handle properly, and itself is priced above the quality it delivers. Not a great match; not a great value. These "review" videos are a hoot. You see the thing play - okay but doesn't need a video. It sounds like the 1 inch tinny speakers in your laptop, or worse - the sound is meaningless.
@Pauls_Archive5 жыл бұрын
So what do you think your proving by trying to degrade the equipment by mentioning China?, I’ll give you a reality check shall I, Ive just bought a brand new I phone directly from Apple. Considered one of the leading companies when it comes to gadgets like phones and tablets right?, and guess what it says in the small print in the box?. . .assembled in China, right you heard it, I said China, So before you slag things off for being made in China, remember that this is not always a direct sign of quality, many top companies have products made and constructed in China, because it’s cheaper!, Just look around you, you’ll be surprised at just how many Reputable products are made in countries like China these days!, The country is not always a reflection on the quality! I have a moded ATLP120 running an m2 Red through a Pioneer amp and vintage mission speakers and it sounds absolutely excellent, which is all that’s important, how it sounds to me and know one else!
