The head cover is removable to get easier acces to the heads.

If you'd like to really get those heads and guides cleaned use some Noxon 7 polish. Apply it with a Q Tip, let dry then buff clean. You may need to apply it twice. Once done the heads will shine. Also it creates a nice slick finish for the tape to glide over the heads. Also don't forge to "Demag" the heads. Nice looking deck! I own a Pioneer RT 701 which sounds awesome and is built well like your deck here!

shaneteacman Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely do the cleaning, do you think it's worth buying the magnet thing? I may call my local repair shop to find out what they charge for that service.

Hi Jake, you can buy a nice used Demagnetizer on EBay. Sony and Teac made nice one's in the 70's. Two that come to mind are the Sony HE-2 and the Teac E-1. Basically the demagnetizer gets rid of head magnetism. This can affect playback and recordings. I do this to all my decks when I first set them up and then demag them a few times each year. I can tell the difference after doing the procedure.

Jake, if you buy a demagnetizer then it's available for use any time you need to use it.
