Can use white pipe dope for LP natural gas. It says so on the label Oatey PN #31230. Of course you need an electron microscope to read the fine print that says this.

My gas sealer is white, it actully says "can also be used for potable water".

You can use the white stuff for anything. Pipe dope is only a lubricant to let the threads create a better seal. They say the white stuff is not water soluble however it will also get caught in the sediment trap if used for gas. Pipe dope is Lubricant. That’s all.

Nah, pipe dope is a sealant first and a lubricant secondary. The inverse is true for Teflon tape: “lubricant” anti friction first and sealant secondary

@@darkma1ice dope is not a sealant. It may help small gaps. But it only allows the thread to seal.

Pipe dope IS a sealant. Look at the specification for pipe threads. The thread form does not fill completely, meaning when threaded together tight, there is potential interference at the point of binding, but there is an empty spiral groove where the major diameter and minor diameter of the mating part are theoretically in contact. Pipe dope fills that empty groove. Gas pipe is manufactured with high speed thread cutters and under magnification they look incredibly crude. This is perfectly fine because of the low pressure of natural gas and liquid propane and the design intent of the use of pipe SEALANT with those threads.

Too much dope. Only reason i know that is cause im always getting yelled at for using too much dope lol. Seriously though you only gotta add enough to cover the threads that get screwed in.

I never use sealant 🤷‍♂️ just tested my 350ft 1 1/2 job and no leaks. Just gotta crank er

How quickly after using pipe dope can i turn my gas back on outside.

Usually I check for leaks after 2 minutes or so. It won't fix a leak but it will prevent a leak from the imperfections of the machining in the threads. You can check for leaks by getting a spray bottle with soapy water and spraying the joint you used the dope on, and if it bubbles, it's leaking. If not, you're good. Hope this helps!

Not all manufacturers use yellow for gas... white is correct.

I've seen more white pipe sealant than yellow....both work fine....aspire to why yellow works better...I already know but let everyone else know....your video lacks it
