Pipers Injury, DC/DC Converter Install, & Hot Tub Review, Oh My!

8 ай бұрынIn this episode of Wandering Wagners we give an update on Pipers leg injury, we did a 2 year review of our @MasterSpas Hot Tub and cleaned it, and Mike installed a @VictronEnergyBV DC/DC Converter Charger to the @NeXusRV Wraith so we could keep our @Redodopower 410Ah Lithium battery Charged up while we drive since we are entering Winter and and our @RichSolarTalk panels won't be getting as much sun up North.
As for Piper's back leg injury- we still aren't even sure what on that leg is injured because she wouldn't let the vet touch her to get a good exam completed. The vet put her on 2 medicines for inflammation and pain so and said NO PLAY for a few weeks. She now seems to be using her leg almost normally again so we are hoping she won't need surgery. Follow up with the vet this week!
Next Lynn Cleaned out our Master Spas Hot Tub and did a general 2 year review on it- Overall we are very happy we decided to get an actual hot tub because we use it all the time!
Mike installed a Victon DC/DC Converter/Charger in the Nexus Wraith 34W so we can now keep our Lithium battery charged up while driving vs relying solely on solar to charge it, or the battery charger.
It only took him a few hours so we will give it a try when we head out on our next trip in a few days!

We use a dedicated small wet shop vac to get rid of the last of the water and suck the residue out the jets too. We change the water every 3 months.

I’m on my third hot tub over 25 years. I use nature2 Spa Mineral Sanitizer filter inserts and an oxidizer. Have not had to deal with any calcium deposits or rings. I change out my water 3 times a year and my tub is outside in the Wisconsin weather. Once you get the hang of using the oxidizer in my opinion it’s the easiest way to maintain your tub and it stays sparkly clean! Love your videos and your editing abilities. We will be full time in about 4 years.

Thanks for sharing! I'll have to look into that and compare. I have a bad habit of getting in when I shouldn't (with lotion and deodorant on etc) so it doesn't help the water quality🤦🏼♀️ Mike always showers before getting in.

Rest for Piper is best medicine. No jumping or running in her future for awhile. Our 8 year old rescued beagle is just recovering from losing the use of her rear legs due to a disc problem. She was on antinflaitory, muscle relaxers and pain meds. After almost 2 months she is able to take short walks. Take it slow and easy Piper.

Back in 2004 I had a Vista brand hot tub. It was a 6 or 8 person tub...don't remember exactly. It had color changing lights and a stereo with water proof speakers. We liked it. All our friends would come over for a pool party and time in the hot tub. Then 2005 came along and we ran screaming from California before the housing mortgage bubble burst. We made it out just in time. Never did get another hot tub or a pool. What I liked about the tub: Right outside the back door - fit plenty of people - never gave us a bit of trouble - the hot tub place we bought it from cleaned it once a month as part of the extended service plan we bought with the tub What we didn't like about the tub: It was too big to take with us when we sold the place and fled the state.

I have had two hot tubes at two different houses. Loved them. Had a problem with both tubs jet heads would break. Cleaned ours about every three months.

We do not currently own a hot tub but did own one for about 8 years. Thoroughly enjoyed the use of it. I would clean it when the water got beyond maintenance with chemicals. Seemed like about every six weeks or so. I found my shop vac to be the easiest way to get the last bit of water after draining the tub. Like you I always cleaned the tub while wearing my swim suit as you do get pretty wet during the cleaning process. I liked the tub the most in the winter as our summers in Texas are too hot to want to be in a hot tub. Don't think we will ever get another but enjoyed it while we had one.

I feel your pain with the Vet experience! I so wish they would make home visits and save the stress it puts on my pup. As for the Hot tub we drain and clean once in the spring and a half drain in winter as we are on well water up here in CNY and have low water. Oh and most importantly thanks for not cleaning the tub in a snow suit lol! The New bathing suit is fabulous!

Poor Piper. Hope she is feeling better. We bought a Coleman blow up Hot Tub. So far ,we love it . I seen someone use a small wrench to put wire into a wire loom.

As a helpful hint, many say to fill the water through the filter inlet to reduce the possibility of airlocks (as it then directly fills the pump intakes).

First and foremost is I'm glad Pipers doing better!! Second thanks for the winter bikini 😆😅🤣 . Third we also have a hot tub / Jacuzzi inside our finished patio and have never had any problems with the drywall . The only thing I dont like is the noise level . When we first got it I didn't even notice it but now 3 years later when we are using it I find I have to turn the jets off to talk . We also have a TV about 10ft away and it now drives me crazy that I cant hear it above the jet noise . But I will also say that even with those problems we will NOT be getting rid of it !!!

The jets can be loud but we haven't really noticed it being unbearable but we don't watch tv while in there much. Mike loves the jets, Lynn would rather just sit in it as it is with no jets

We have a Master Spas hot tub that is a similar size to yours. We drain and refill ours the same way you do yours. We’ve never used the drain plug between it would take forever to get all the water out and just finding it easier to stick a pump with a hose attached, it works perfectly

I hope Piper gets better. We have had a Marquis hot tub for about 17 years and it is still going. Have replaced the cover a few times. I change our water every 4 months but don’t scrub it out as it did not seem to make a difference. Drain with a pump like you and shop vac out the rest. Use the Frog products also. It is outside and I use it about 2 times a week. Used to use it more but we have a bad neighbor that makes it not enjoyable. Wish it was in the garage like yours.

I have a inflatable hot tub in my shed and I had people tell me not to put it in there too but I haven't had a problem either except for my grandbabys flood the floor when they get in it and play but we just mop it up

I would say start saving for Pipers surgery. I know of a few dogs that the meds healed it up for awhile. But they both ended up needing surgery a few years later. These were both hunting dogs. So they tend to run around like crazy in the woods.

Haha piper is from the streets of east Toledo lol she was picked up as a stray and taken to the shelter where we later adopted her. That saying has been a run on joke with piper being a tough dog that ran the streets😂 Appreciate the awesome comment as usual😁👏🏻👏🏻

Love the updates. Prayers for Piper Mike: Would a wind turbine ever be an option for charging the Redodo? Obviously not in the garage, but when camping or going down the road? Maybe even a small turbine in the yard connected through the garage wall? Just curious. Great content, very informative.

Thank you! Mike is all but healed up completely and Piper... Well, we are hoping she won't need surgery but not so sure that's in the cards since we can't keep her from playing and being her crazy self forever

Steam cleaner maybe for the Hot tub. Would clean jets out. I use mine for everything almost. Friends had a room built for their HT. Too much humidity and moisture in the end.

Thank you! Mike had a cold recently so that's why we didn't travel... And he gave it to me! Now I'm sick with a fever haha ugh! But Mike did say he didn't even think of his surgery incisions while installing this converter!🎉👏🏻👏🏻

I hope Piper and Mike are on the mend. Love all your videos Except this one I have a little complaint when you're washing the hot tub and then all of a sudden the camera went into fast forward. Didn't much care for the fast forwarding😅😊 but other than that great as usual

I've watched your progression, adding solar, lithium, multiples II and DC to DC charger. Nexus has a power distribution box with a BIRD in it. With all your upgrades have you ever had to change out anything within this distribution box?

My son in law has started doing the polar plunges he bought an insulated tank with a cover that he keeps outside on their deck, he really likes it but I have to admit thats not something I’m even remotely interested in doing

We have a Sundance got it in Avon. We use ours more in the fall and winter. But you're making me feel bad, I hardly ever clean and drain ours. I keep the water in its specs and it seems to be fine 😂 😂

I have a bad habit of getting in with lotions/after a workout so I end up changing the water and cleaning the tub haha Mike always showers before getting in so I scrub it😂

Lynn- Definitely do the polar plunge, however it needs to be colder than 50 degrees. Mike- Why can you use the trucks alternator to charge the LiON battery? I'm planning to replace my two lead acid batteries in my 5th wheel with one 300Ah LiPO4 battery like the one you have. My ford super duty has a 2nd alternator to help power and charge the batteries in the trailer. My charger/converter in the trailer has a jumper setting to switch it to LiON. Just curious if I need to purchase one of those DC/DC converters or not. Kent

Lithium batteries have much lower internal resistance and can draw more power than your alternator can provide. Lithium batteries also have a different charging profile than lead acid, which is why your charger has a jumper for lithium. The wiring between your truck and trailer is much to small to be able to overload your alternator so you "should" be ok.

Did you establish which wire interconnected the original house and starter batteries. Prior to your installation of the dc/dc charger what did you do to isolate the house and starter battery.

First things first... My wife and I wouldn't mind if you did every video in a bikini LOL. We also have a hot tub that we love. Our only issue is ours is outside and believe it or not, it does get chilly and rain a lot in SE Texas. If you want to do the polar plunge...who am I to stop you. Merry Christmas !!! Glad to see Mike feeling better.

For Mike: where were your wires for the start assist (or whatever it’s called to allow the engine to start off the house batteries instead of the chassis batteries? Not sure how that works. Any tips would be appreciated. I’ve got a pair of cables in our Wraith 34W battery locker that are taped off and no one knows where they go. Anyone with an idea? They disappear into the under carriage headed towards the rear.

There was a wire that ran from the chassis batteries over to a box with relays in it next to the house batteries. I disconnected that wire as I wanted to isolate the lead acid batteries from the lithium. That wire is what I believe can connect the batteries for an emergency start. We carry jumper cables and if we end up needing a boost we can always use the Jeep to charge up the chassis batteries.

Finally solved the mystery cables in my battery compartment. Turns out the factory installed the wiring for solar even though there was no solar ordered. Wires run to the cabinet with the fridge and up into the cabinet over the steps and behind a slanted panel. So I have an extra set of those thick expensive cables. I sure would like to add a weather proof metal box where the lead acid batteries used to be. Even though the wraith has a lot of basement storage never hurts to have another locker.
