It's been a while since I've seen the show, but I think that 18:58 is the only time I've seen Jamie laugh because of something Adam said instead of Adam getting hurt, something blowing up, or some random experiment result.

During the Wars of the Coalition (Napoleonic wars) a Royal Marine lost his temper with the French. We don't know what the French had done but the Marine was pissed. He is documented to have fetched a cask of shot, about 1000 rounds of musket ammunition, which he proceeded to load into a 64lb cannon. We don't know exactly how much damage the shot did but it definitely let the French know this Royal Marine was fuming.

Using the upside down boat to make an air bubble works, but it just has enough buoyancy to drag anyone to the surface, or at least tear them apart.

I suspect the rowboat submersible could technically work if you weigh down the boat to counteract the buoyancy but you'd have to push over 2000 pounds of weight which is asking a bit much for most people.

You need deadweight at least equal to the mass of the vessel to pull off the boast myth. For the sand myth, the whole thing is unlikely. More likely to kill a prisoner with a sword or pistol. The amount of effort such an execution would require just isn't worth it and pirates were in reality busy pragmatic people.
