80lb test line would be a little too much for that reel in my opinion. I put 50 lb test braid on mine. It handles Socal fishing for small to midsize yellowtail, bonito, rockfish, ca halibut, and small tuna. Pretty good rod, I mean reel! ; )

I use 80lb on mine and it is fine. No issue and casts far as hell. I have super tuned my bearings and also removed 4 magnets from the brakes since they're so strong braked and musky baits weigh a lot. I just go higher on the dial but I can go lower for less resistance and get super good distance even with 80lb and 7'6" Rod.

Thank you for sharing that information. Ive been thinking about purchasing the 300 Alijos for some time because of the specs and now, after watching your video, am quite reassured of its ruggedness. I also spend a lot of time rockfishing in Monterey County along with surf fishing the Central California coast and this presentation of yours has really helped convince me to go ahead and finally purchase this reel. Keep up the good work!

Yep, I agree buddy. I've had one for over a year that I've used for slow pitch jigging and bottom fishing Grouper & Snapper in the Gulf. They have smooth huge drags, nice retrieval rates and are built well. Now you just need to learn how to pronounce the name of your reel.😅

I've used the 300 for a few years now in the salt and fresh...no issues since I've owned it ... I do rinse it in warm mild dish soap and a fresh rinse as well.. after each use in the salt or fresh.. which is what you should do on a regularly.. whether your gear is cheap or high-end,... take care of it.. Whatever species you decide to target,.. its a budget reel and for the price point,.. its a great value! you can't go wrong ..👍😎🤙

I bought one of the first Alijos (when they spelled it with an "S") and used it for big Swimbaits for largemouth. Then I moved to the Texas coast and I used this reel on an 8' Heavy Shimano Curado rod to throw cut bait and 5-6 oz lead over 100 yards. Have caught several big stingray and black tip on it, and it handles everything with ease. I've never been known for reel care... I'm pretty rough on my gear. I clean and lube if it starts making noise. (Yeah, I'm that guy) But this one has impressed me so much, that I just bought 2 more a few days ago. (I got all three on sale, so I have paid a total of LESS than the cost of 1 Lew's 300 Super Duty) Oh... and casting an 8" Hudd is child's play with this thing... it just works the way it's supposed to and it's built to last. Simple as that.

I took mine out bft fishing last week. Didn't get bite so don't know if drag would be sufficient in reality. However, line capacity is REALLY tight. I fit 200 yards of 50lb 8 strand braid or 270 yards of 40lb 8 strand braid on this reel. Yes I don't cast all of the braid out, but tuna runs. It throws 120g colt sniper like a dream. I would not hesitate to take it for anything up to yellowtail, or maybe the 15-20lb tuna. But there is no guarantee that a 30-40lb is not with the 20lb school biting. The 8.1 gear ratio is superb to bring lure in, I don't know if it will be too little torque with a 20lb fish on the other end.

I would fish for the small yellowfin tunas I caught in Costa Rica with that reel without being worried. I caught lots up to 15 or 20 lbs. So with 25 or 30 lb braid it should be fine. But I don't think the mono capacity is enough for tuna. And a 4' mahi should be no big deal with that reel on the right rod.

Couple questions number one is the line capacity in number two is a good four on shore fishing and it's also good for bass fishing

I have been running promax on my lamiglas x11 and have landed some descent steel head and cats but not sure how it will handle salmon this year so sounds like this will be a good backup. Hi I have never used a bait caster type reel in my life (im 62) but want to try the piscifun alijos 300 reel for surf fishing...... I use a 4 meter long rod and sling a minimum of a 4oz sinker with 2 hooks and large baits...... is this reel capable of handling this type of setup. Am I wasting my time and money even trying something like this...... you advise would be most helpful....... Cheers

Yes!! This reel is great for fief casting! It’s a little bit in the heavier side of reel as far as retrieval speed and line capacity but it’ll would be better to use it for the bigger sizes of led weights! The breaks that stop the reel from backlashes is built well enough to have a wide spectrum of settings I use it for rock fishing off our coast with big led,use it for crab snaring which sometimes we have close to 1lb of weight and use it for live bait drifting aswell!

Why would people ask if they could jig tuna with a reel that is designed to catch bass? I mean, nobody ever asked if they could use a Shimano bass reel to catch a tuna so why would they ask if a Chinese bass reel could catch a tuna, something that the reel isn’t designed to do? It’s as if in order for a Chinese reel to be considered legit it must have the abiliity to do what a Shimano bass reel can’t do, which is outrageous and ridiculous! If I want to catch tuna I would go with a saltwater rod and reel instead! Anyway, I don’t have this reel but I do have the Piscifun Phantum as well as two spinning models and they all work great and I do catch snakeheads, pike, carp, mackerels, stripers, drums, croakers, jacks, catfish as well as bass with all of them. Because I haven’t done any deep sea fishing those are the only species I have encountered with these reels as a freshwater/saltwater fisherman. So although I don’t think the Alijoz is designed to catch tuna, since it isn’t big enough nor is it designed for that type of fishing, I think it probably could handle small tuna species or a small juvenile bluefin or yellowfin if you happened to hook into one of them occasionally, based on the experience that I have with other Piscifun reels. I have caught striped bass up to 14 pounds with my Piscifun HonorXT in the 4000 size before, so they are powerful reels! I find that Piscifun reels have more dragging power than similarly-sized reels that are found in Shimano, Penn, and Daiwa reels so I guess that’s why they could handle oversized fish beyond what they are designed to do. Anyway, I bought my first Piscifun reel 7.5 years ago and I still have it and it still works great! Since then I have bought 5 other reels in 2 other models for myself and they are all the best reels that I’ve ever bought for under the $190 price range! I also bought 9 other Piscifun reels as Christmas gifts for my family and friends and they all love the reels that I gave them!
