That's actually one of the largest limiting factors to efficiency. It's called Pumping Loss. The parasitic drag on the engine from having to pump air in and out of relatively small valves and through restrictive intake and exhaust systems...the faster the engine is running the greater these losses and that's why power peaks then begins to fall as rpm increases on most engines.

Nah you’re anxious cuz you yourself can’t handle this roughness of piston cycles, the engine can cuz it has oil lubricating everything. In fact the redline isn’t that dangerous, your engine won’t blow immediately after revving past the redline. There is probably also a rev limiter before the rev limit and behind the redline.

Another factor of piston speed is the stroke. Piston speed is a combination of crank rpm and the diameter of the circle made by the con rod lower pin. The larger the pin circle, the faster piston speed at mid stroke and higher leverage. Bigger pin circles limit rpm while increasing leverage at the crank pin, ie, higher torque Thats why larger bore:stroke can run higher rpm while larger stroke:bore can give higher torque, relatively speaking.

@Bikerbuoy
@Bikerbuoy Жыл бұрын
F1 engine pistons hardly move up and down actually because they have very large piston diameters and very short strokes. As an old pal used to say, they were like "vibrating dinner plates". This vastly reduces the mean piston speed (and piston acceleration) which reduces friction between the piston and cylinder. It also reduces the stresses on the crankshaft, connection rod and piston.

I would make sure that each revolution of the crank matches each revolution of the pulley on the back of that tach. I believe you will find that the tack is reading slower than the engine is actually spinning. You could also test this with a digital tach reader on the engine itself. That being said. This thing is pretty awesome. Good job

I've seen videos online of see though engines and when the engine is revved up the fire in the combustion chamber seems continuous like the engine is moving so fast that some fire stays behind as the intake stroke is happening.
