Replacing the controller board in the Pit Boss Pro Series 1100.
It was actually pretty easy, sorry the portion of me actually plugging things back in got corrupted but did the best I could. Hope I don't have to worry about this again for awhile.
When ever you clean out your Pit Boss, always pulg it in and have it powered off and check for this issue, it did really scare me with the igniter getting hot with out it turned on, that could have caused a massive disaster.
But make sure to register your Pit Boss to make support contact much easier.

Thanks for ensuring to talk about which wires plug into the correct wires. Other videos did not provide this information. I actually unplugged everything without checking which wires go where so I needed this information to finish the project. Thanks

I solved the problem with the help of a tip. Somehow I had put the bottom heat baffle plate on incorrectly. It was not in the 2 slots. This caused no control over regulating the temp. It’s back to normal. Thanks

I finally got my replacement control module working - kind of. Apparently, I have all the connections done correctly, and IF I leave the module partly out of the hole (halfway snapped in), the device sometimes turns on - at least it makes the correct noise and the screen is active. HOWEVER, if I have the module fully installed (snapped in tigihtly), the device will NOT work. I believe that there is s short that is only engaged when the wires are gathered and snugged up in their space. In other words - The function to turn "ON" may work f the module is partially pushed into place, but not when it's fully installed.

Does smoke come from your pellet container? I've noticed that happening to mine and it seems like it uses a lot more pellets to get to the temperature I want it at
@BUMMERSBARBQ
@BUMMERSBARBQ 4 жыл бұрын
No really do not get any smoke out of the hopper, think it happened once. The higher temp you cook at the more pellets it will use, I can use a full hopper for probably about 3-4 cooks with the temps around 225-300 for 4-5 hours each, usually fill it back up a good bit, because if you let it get to low you could get a burn-out.

Just came across your channel and was watching all the videos you have had about problems with your pit 1100,was wondering do you leave the extension cord plugged in all the time? also what gauge and length is the cord? I have had the 820 pro series for just over 4 yrs now and have never had any problems at all with mine. I noticed in some of the vids you set the dial to smoke then turn on the power, my instructions say to do the opposite. Power on first then set to smoke. My directions also say to always unplug the unit when not being used. Just wondering if some of the electrical issues you have had might be because of that. Enjoy the vids always very helpful and informative Thanks.

In the end all the problems were caused from the control board being shorted out. It caused the fuse and heating rod to go bad. When the control board got the short it was always putting power though the board when plugged in, noticed that right after I replaced the heat rod, plugged it in but didn't turn it on and the heat rod started glowing red. Haven't had any problems with it since then. Yes, I do use an extension cord and Yes, I unplug it when not in use. Can't think of the length right now but probably around 10-12 feet something like that.
@USA__2023

@@BUMMERSBARBQ Nothing to do with the extension cord. Pitt Boss probably ties the hot rod relay directly to the incoming power so if the relay "sticks" on the hot rod lights up as soon as you plug it in. Relays do stick in the on position sometimes especially if they are not rated high enough.
@BUMMERSBARBQ
@BUMMERSBARBQ Жыл бұрын
@@USA__2023 more than likely that was the main problem.....

@@BUMMERSBARBQ I looked at some pellet controllers, it looks like they use SSR, solid state relays on some of them. They also can end up shorted. The reason is usually substandard materials, under rated or improper heat sink. I'm mentioning the technical aspect to point out that the issue is totally the fault of the manufacturer. For example Recteq uses solid state relays and you won't see issues like this. They still have some issues with controllers but it's rare.

Bummers. I got my Pit Boss 1100 pro finally put together and I am doing my initial Burn in. I noticed that if I set it to 350, the digital "Actual Temp" will read around the set temp. The Dome Temp gauge reads around 70 degrees hotter. I know those arent really accurate so I took both meat thermometers and place one in the middle and one close to the sensor the digital readout gives. The Dome and 2 meat sensors are reading the same, roughly 60ish degrees hotter.

If you listened to what I said in the video....pretty sure the other problems with the igniter rod and fuse were caused by this problem with the open circuit on the control board just letting it keep running. And have been using it for over 8 months before the first issue showed up....so really do not think it's defective, think it's a piece of electronics that started to fail because of one issue that caused all the others.
