(15 Jul 2016) PITBULL URGES DONALD TRUMP TO USE HIS PLATFORM FOR 'THE GREATER GOOD'
International superstar Pitbull cemented his place in Hollywood history Friday (15 July 2016) with a star on the Walk of Fame.
The Cuban-American rapper became emotional during the ceremony while thanking his family and a friend who had died.
"I'm getting it together! I'm getting it together," he told the crowd as he was tearing up.
After the ceremony, Pitbull addressed reports that he had been courted by presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
"You know me being Cuban-American, I was born politically incorrect already. But as far as the campaigns - very interesting. There's been plenty of candidates that want to sit down and have conversations. I don't have a problem doing that you know, but I do have a certain situation with the way people are handling their platforms. You know when you're handed power, you've got to really understand what that embodies and unfortunately I feel that Donald Trump doesn't understand that right now. And that's why I say about Trump, you know God bless him. That's the beautiful thing about being in the United States of America. But utilize it for the better, for the greater good. You know not just saying anything because you're going to get headlines off of it, you know? So do we really want to help this country or do we want to be the biggest celebrity in the world? You ask that question," said Pitbull in an interview.
Motivational speaker Tony Robbins, rapper Lil Jon and record label owner-rapper Luther Campbell attended the afternoon celebration.
"They've always try to pigeonhole me into some kind of genre, whether it was hip-hop, crunk, you know a Southern artist, reggaeton, whatever it maybe. (For) me it's just all about making music. And I've been very blessed to be able to learn from so many different and amazing people. As you guys can see over there, I had Uncle Luke up there, Lil Jon, Tony Robbins. Who would've ever thought? I don't even think Vincent van Gogh could paint that picture, you know to be honest with you. But to me, what I have gotten a chance to see is music is the universal language. It breaks down barriers and borders, sees no limits and it brings everybody together. So it never really bothered me if they see me a certain way or they didn't me. I always say I'm too Latin for hip-hop, too hip-hop for Latins. Till they figure it out I'm gonna keep rapping," Pitbull said after the event.
Pitbull addressed the crowd in English and Spanish during the ceremony and called for a better understanding of the Latino experience in the United States.
He received the 2,584th star on the Walk of Fame. It is located next to the Celia Cruz Plaza, which honors one of his favorite artists.
