This unit only gave up 3.9 yards per play. The 2nd fewest total that year was 4.4. This defense was so dominant that teams averaged a half yard less per play than anyone else! Unreal!

That 2008 AFC Championship game was the hardest-hitting game I remember (and I saw the Curtain in the 70s). I thought Ryan Clark had literally killed Willis McGahee in that late 4th quarter hit. It was an absolute slugfest and every play featured some sort of extremely hard contact.

This is beautiful. Made me cry - who we were then, not “we” as in the team, but personally, our families, children, the shared experience with the 2008 team, that collection of gods amongst men. And also all we’ve lost between then and now, both the team and our families, our children gone, our lives more empty, the team no longer anything special. So we cry for what was good, contrasting it to what we’ve lost and what we have now.

Just think about all the great players on that defense: Aaron Smith, Brett Keisel, Casey Hampton, James Harrison, LaMarr Woodley, Larry Foote, James Farrior, Ike Taylor, Lawrence Timmons, Ryan Clark, Troy Polamalu, Deshea Townsend. What an insane amount of talent for one team to have on defense. Our defense in 2023 is good, but it doesn't even come close to the '08 squad.
