PIVOT STEER VS SKID STEER! IS THERE A WINNER?

Our last day using the cast loader that we have on demo and we put it alongside the skidsteer we hire in to clean out sheep buildings with. What is everyones opinion on the 2 machines?

Yes, a mini telehandler would be good to have a go with. Manitou have just launched a mini one. Might be nice to have a go with that!

Great video Josh! Nice to compare side by side like that. Too bad you didn't have a Case 57. Same HP as the skid steer. Seems like the stronger Case decked out would be a winner. As you said, they make all kinds of attachments for the Case Loaders. Might find it even more useful in some of the experimental areas that are unique to the research farm. Enjoyed the video. Well done!

It was a good comparison! We can always spec the cast loader up a bit to be more in line with the skid steer. Something to look into

Hi Josh your right pivot stear was very good, the skid stear takes a bit of getting use to, I've driven skid stears for many years before I retired, but yes it all comes down to what you really need, take care 🙂

It was for me anyway! As I said I’ve not got any skid steer experience therefore I don’t get the best from that machine.

The cast loader seems better at getting into little nooks and crannies. The skid steer is very jumpy

I found it to be a bit easier in the corners. Yes that’s the downside to them, they become very jumpy if you aren’t nice with the controls

A second hand JCB teletruk might be a better option than both them? Skid steers to me are pointless unless your working in small chicken sheds or something.

Yes, have looked at them briefly. Probably more money than a new cast I imagine!

You could do with a cheap low sided tipper trailer and load straight on to it, I'd have thought in the future?

We do have a little one we could have used, I think it was on another job at the time. Gets used for fencing a lot.

Skid steer looks tricky to steer if you not used to them. Pivot steer looks easy enough The JCB TM looks a nice toy would the tm be too big in you sheds ??

It made my brain ache trying to drive it! The TM range of jcbs would be a bit big for our sheds I think

Still say avant my 530 has 5ft grab on would give Craig run for his money on it compare to skid also quick fit pipe so no need to release pressure

Would be a good competition! The manitou has that really handy button for dumping the pressure on it. Would be nice if it had that!

I like the look of the Avant, we've quoted up a 528? Which is the equivalent size machine. I just need to find the time to go see one and have a play.
